Super Glued by Devil Duck

December 13th, 2007 7:21 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Super Glue something to the ground. Consider documenting the experience of those who try to move it.

I had been wanting to do this task for a long time, I just didn't know what to glue or where.

Finally the inspiration came to me late one night after I kicked over my jar of pennies. Bored, I started playing with them and came up with this..

I picked up 10 tubes of superglue the next day before work so that I could just go out and finish the task once I decided where I was to place my Haight st message.
Finally, after a long days work, I decided to unwind at 3am by heading out to the panhandle.
I apologize in advance for the quality of the videos and pictures. My digital was lost on the bus recently and I had to use my camera phone for documentation.

And finally, I also decided to super glue my shadow. I figured that this would be a Revolutionary act by mimicking a shadow is you in the style of super glued.
I put the black plastic silouette on a Eucalyptus tree.

Here they are two days later, still there.

And the shadow.

I decided to fix it up a little.

The idea of supergluing a shadow to a tree is neat. And great captions, although I found out after I counted every penny.
How long does it take to superglue 1.13 to the pavement? Finding decent superglueable pavement is hard work.

If you really want it to stick, use JB-Weld.

It's not cyanoacrylate, but it's well suited to the task of bonding to both metals and pavement. It takes longer to cure, though.

Whatever glue you use, make sure your surfaces are clean and dry, and roughing the coins with some sandpaper helps.

There are cheaper ways to buy superglue, and varieties of superglue both more and less suited to the Task, but I've never seen such other than on the internet or in catalogs.

Super glue is not space filling, so for uneven surfaces, epoxy might be superior. I like the shadow idea!

I am an idiot

Okay so I passed by my shadow whilst biking home. It is a little west of Clayton on the panhandle as of 12/16. The pennies are also there. Pics to ensue once I am mailed the proof (cause my camera is lost..)
And as a response for Levitating Potato, Rongo Rongo, and any future anti-super gluers, I must state that I believe "super glued" requires actual super glue. although I must admit that I did resort to using pins once my shadow was blown away.
