Reduction to the Body by Shea Wolfe
January 14th, 2008 4:13 PMPart 1: The bath
So, I had planned to spend the entire time in the bath, carefully observing my body, both inside and out. most of the things I discovered I already knew, but there are a few things that surprised me.
1. My feet seem to be the most heat sensitive part of my body (with the exception of my face, which I didn't dunk in the water)
2. I breath roughly 9 times per minute at rest (not sure how accurate this is as I was timing it which always changes how you breath. Fun fact, when breathing in the bath tub the water helps to lift up you chest as your lungs expand.
3. When I am in the bath, the ringing in my right ear seems to go away.
4. My attention span is really bad, I mean, I planned to spend the whole time in the bath, but after 5 minutes I was already getting board. My dad tells me I have, or had, ADHD but I don't really believe that. However maybe I should reconsider.
So after failing at spending the whole time in the bath I decided to move onto other parts of my body.
Part 2: hair.
So, after gettting out of the bath I noted that I needed to shave, which gave me an idea. Fetching a pair of tweezers I began to pluck out one hair from just about every part of my body that grew it. head, sideburns, beard, mustache, nose, eyebrow, chest, armpit, belly, pubic, thigh, shin, foot, and arm hair were all plucked. Here's what I noted.
1. Nose hair was, by far, the most painful/sensitive. I think this is because the nose has a lot of give to it so it takes a lot more to pull the hair out. Also having a forign object inside the nose makes everything a bit worse...I sneezed a lot afterwards.
2. After face hair. The top of the foot is the most sensitive. Surprisingly public hair is not all that sensitive.
3. My massive birthmark on my shin in neither more or less sensitive than the rest of my shin, not surprising, but fun to test.
Having finished plucking my hair I felt I had a little more time to play around with and looked outwards, specifically outside.
Part 3: Cold
Today it snowed briefly, so I knew it would be cold. I threw on some pants and a short sleved shirt and headed outside without any shoes. Here's what I noticed.
1. Walking on cold ground is a lot like wading into a pool. I naturally go up on the balls of my feet to minimize how much of my foot is touching the ground. When I forced my feet to be flat it wasn't even that bad and my feet began to adjust to the cold.
2. This was, by far, the coolest thing I discovered during the entire half hour I spent carefully monitoring. When I had my feet pressed to the cold pavement outside I felt a cramp coming on in my right foot. I froze not wanting to aggrivate it and hoped it would pass quickly. But then I thought about it for a second. I could feel the entire muscle running through my foot tightening up and I realized that it wasn't one of the random cramps. It was my muscles constricting to try to conserve the heat that was left in my foot. I just thought that was really cool and had never actually noticed my body doing it before.

I do not relate to the feet thing actually. My feet cannot be compared to others with any degree of accuracy. The things my feet endure others cannot comprehend. I sympathize rather than empathize.
Yeah, I suspect there's a spectrum of foot qualities found as you go from full-time barefooters like you to normal people like Shea.
Also, congrats on levelling up.
I take offence at the thought that anything about me may be normal sir. Take that back!
I shan't, as you are in fact better at posing as normal than anyone else I know at your level of geekiness. Your feet are also entirely normal so far as I am aware.
really good interpretation of "study"--actually performing "experiments" versus just looking at it, etc. i have a feeling the completions for this task are going to continue to be awesome.
Fun fact. My mom is having that wallpaper torn out and the wall painted tomarrow. No joke, I just moved the random rubbish out of the room to allow for the painting to happen.
The last photo, described as the plucking of leg hair, definitely seem to show the plucking of ARM hair. I am disappointed, sir.
Shea Wolfe has hands for feet. Didn't you know that?
This lie was brought to you by the JJason foundation. The JJason foundation is supported by JJason and viewers like you
Holy crap I am voting just because you plucked hairs out.
Man that couldn't have been fun.
Seriously I mean I shave all over the place but PLUCKING just makes my hair stand on end.
Yes, this is voteworthy. Nose hair--it never occurred to me that'd be about the "give" but that's it exactly, and I know what you mean about the sneezing. Top of foot hair-- holy cow, yes! Doesn't that just burn like white fire?! The foot thing was quite insightful.
I imagine Lincoln would have further thoughts for us all on that subject, hobbit that he is.
