INSTRUCTIONS: Photograph a most normal, pedestrian view of the world around you. Crop the photo down to a distinct and beautiful vision. Show us the difference.

Pedestrian things, eh? How about an intersection as seen from my rooftop? EDIT: This is not my rooftop. It is my back porch which happens to be a rooftop.

So much of these have seemed to be about lights. What the light is doing, what the specific colors are doing in response to that light. Nighttime makes specific light sources more important outside. With a city at night as a backdrop, lights are comfort, safety, and pretties, as well as creators-of-shadow and things-which-reveal the dangers of city life.

As someone who's afraid of the dark, I particularly like light. I appreciate the little bits that can be added here and there to make all the difference.

Intersection. Cars.

Here's the slice of it:

A slice of light and color in a dark night.

Another shot:

More lights.

And the bit I cropped:

A constellation of cars.

The third shot:

A quieter view.

And the slice of this, which is a friend of the first slice:

Like the first slice but with more light things.

- smaller

I think even this pedestrian view is pretty.

More lights.

More lights.

I like the three clusters of car headlights in the upper half of the picture.

A quieter view.

A quieter view.

More lights, still.

It's like a core sample of the picture.

A constellation of cars.

A constellation of cars.

Headlights as binary stars. A fun concept.

Like the first slice but with more light things.

Like the first slice but with more light things.

A beautiful progression. Imagine it adding more and more of those horseshoe-shaped lights until the whole picture was aglow.

aaahhh I love the long slices, they're really amazing. bizare, at first, I couldn't tell what I was looking at til I scrolled way down, but really really neat looking. I love how they are all pixelated. (which I don't normally like) but its really cool in this.

As familiar as I am with that particular view, I was still surprised and intrigued by the cropped images. Very nice focus!

Caroline: Thank you. I like the pixellation, too, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Fizzbang: Thank you! My camera and I had a small talk about what I wanted it to capture before I took the pictures. The rooftop says hi.

A core sample of light!

El Capitan: Better than a light sample of core?
