Object Annotation by The Animus

March 18th, 2008 6:09 PM / Location: 41.416735,-87.73977

INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

My journey started with a piece of paper, a towel ninja'd from my dad's golf cart seconds prior to leaving, and my camera (not shown. I wonder why).

The annotation was for something that had a lot of significance to me, so I wrote a letter telling it so:
I wanted to congratulate you.

I've elected you to be the Most Prominent Public Object in Monee.
You stand tall. You're something to look at. And hey, you're not a residential building. That makes you, in my mind, the most eligible for such an honor.
Now, one might wonder why, in such an area, has a human become so acquainted with an object such as one's self?

We have some history, you and I. The details of which will be spared for onlookers, ignorant of our connection.

In the darkness came a duality. You offered your solace to the pair. In the darkness came a piercing light. It was an intrusion; the destruction of your peace. You once again offered yourself to us, a shield in a time of vulnerability. You confused the heckling hounds for us, as we abandoned you.

I want you to know that you have not been forsaken. I have not forgotten the gifts that you shared with us. Though you are here to mark the end of a family's life -- to mark the end of life itself -- you have served a much greater purpose.

Oh, hey, I found this game, it's called SF0. Check it out, it's awesome.

I went to my destination: The Monee Cemetary. On the way there, I had come to realize that the auto-focus on my camera is uncalibrated, and as such, it'd be easier for me to just focus the camera myself. I also took some pictures to test out this new focusing technique:

Finally, to the object in question: The huge phallic grave of the Kuersten family.

To explain in detail: the 'pair' included myself and my significant other, the light was from a flashlight, the shield was from the light and the accompanying source, the time of vulnerability was one where the law had an advantage over us, the hounds were really hounds (and even after searching my car (doh! Lrn2lockdoors), they couldn't pick up my scent), and the abandonment was just that.

On my way out, I decided to take more pictures. It's a nice place.

(What does it say?)

And so ends my journey.
(As a side note, I'm beginning to feel the compounding satisfaction of a successful task completion. The glory of genuinely free, self-conscious, authentic activity.)

I always love the Praxis on this task. It calls for such a simple action, but continually brings out that "glory of genuinely free, self-conscious, authentic activity" in players, which is my favorite interpretation of SFØ. Thanks for summing it up in so many words!

The details of the story that brought you and this phallus together I can only imagine - the poetic description of it on your note is lovely to read.

Keep it coming.
