Automatom and I bussed down to the Nicollet Mall to show the Mary Tyler Moore statue some love and make sure she had a physical version of the craigslist 'missed connections' ad. The statue was installed on the Nicollet Mall in 2002, you know, before all public art came with Wi-Fi, and we didn't want her to miss out on true love.
As we were documenting the annotation, three women came out of Macy's (formerly Dayton's) department store and stopped to read the annotation - and then decided to take pictures of each other in front of Mary!
(For the record, nearly everyone in Minneapolis hates this statue. It was paid for by TV Land, and contains an ad for the station on the plaque. Mary's face is contorted such that she looks like she may devour innocent passers-by, and it's also an annoying obstruction to foot traffic on the sidewalk.)
UPDATE: Automatom passed by the statue again around 6 p.m. and the sign was still there - except that someone had moved it to Mary's behind.

"Nearly everyone in Minneapolis" can eat it. I effin' love MTM's TVLand tribute. She is nearly the perfect expression of MinnePOPalis and I stand by her, her and her gigantic mouth. Well played!
OH MY GOD. I Saw your ad on craigslist and nearly replied that I thought it was adorable! I also saw ladies taking their pictures in front of Mary the other day!
Also, I once gave Mary a bouquet of balloons in the middle of the night on a -30 degree night.
That's darling, Inky.
On Halloween somone gave her a monster mask. Totally made my day. Maybe on Easter I should give her bunny ears?
I believe I saw a parade from a skyway there!
The multiple references involved here make me smile. Not like Mary's smile, but a smile nonetheless. :)
