Trespassing the Future by Riotous Dreamer

February 24th, 2008 10:00 AM / Location: 36.063703,-115.0137

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to a place you will not be able to go to in 10 years; for instance, a place under development that will never be the same again.

This is no longer tentatively into the future: The Alystra has burnt down. There will be a memorial service held for it sometime soon. I'm putting up pictures of it burnt down, the memorial service when it happens, and the empty lot when it makes it to that point.

However, here is the place: The Alystra. Goodbye my fair friend...

This casino has been abandoned since October 1997. It was built and is owned by some rich tennis player who has no mind for location. There are holes in the walls, ceiling, windows, towers; two barbies nailed to the wall in the 69 position smack dab in the middle of a spraypaint pentagram; golfclubs stuck into the walls; tons of graffiti including one of the few intact rooms that is saturated in hangman games and song lyrics; a room that has been made into a cozey living room and another that is a bedroom...

For all these reasons and more, this is my favorite place on earth.

And now for a few pictures.

Be forewarned, to my knowledge these were NOT photoshopped.

Lighting due to exposure

Lighting due to exposure

Looking out toward the freeway from the Alystra rooftop, the camera made me think, "The city is burning..."

The main room...

The main room...

I need to get a picture of what is to the *right* of this picture. There's a stage, and the floor has been broken into allowing access to the safe room. In the morning, the sun breaks through one of the holes in the celing.

Rooftop visitor

Rooftop visitor

Lots of people find this place to be home. And see that tower in the back? There are 3 of those of varying heights, and you can go into all of them. That particular one is full of pigeon shit...

More of the main room.

More of the main room.

Somewhere in this area is also a rope hanging from a rafter now exposed by one of those holes. The end is tied in a loop and it's fun to swing from...

The doorway

The doorway

The main entryway. Boarded up. If you want to get in, you have to climb. Good luck: it isn't easy

The moon photographs better than most women. :)

Wheter it's still a casino or is torn down, I believe that in the future this building will not be what it is now, so good job.

Fun photos. I'd love to see more, of some of the stuff inside that you described! Whether it's demolished or no, chances are it still won't be the same in 10 years.

A rope, with a loop at the end, hanging in an abandoned building?

Hmm...

Brilliant completion!

You left that rope with a loop at the end there, Tom, and you forgot?

I have to give credit where credit is due, and I apologize for not doing so sooner!

The photographs are courtesy of this guy, except for the pic of the moon.
