VoxHumAnima grew up in several Bay Area towns, including Sunnyvale, San Jose, Redwood City, Napa, Palo Alto and (a little further away) Manteca. Born in the early 1980s to unmarried parents, who later married and, later, divorced, he is one of four children—the only boy. Curiously, he is both a first and middle child...the after-effect of half-siblings and parental remarriage.
His earliest memory (or so he believes):
I am about three or four years old. I'm riding in the family car behind my dad, who's sitting in the passenger side. Does that mean Mom was driving? Was my older sister there? Anyway, I watch my dad hold the long plastic wrapper from a piece of licorice rope outside the car window. Pinched between his fingers, it flutters in the wind, frantically trying to escape. The sunlight sparkles on its skin. Then, Dad lets go and the wrapper is free, flies past my window and I twist in an attempt to see where it went. I wonder if this plastic wrapper will prove to be my very own Proustian madeleine someday.
He often searches for metaphoric meaning in virtually meaningless events.
