Compile Some Footage by YellowBear
August 2nd, 2007 1:15 AMThis essentially consists of what we today call Blues, Gospel, Jazz, Country & Folk, but from a time when these distinct separations hadn't really been made. I am fascinated by what music can tell us about the society/people that created it. The hopes, fears, dreams, and motivations of a people always comes through in their music. The songs from this time in our history serve as an exellent time capsule of daily life, and a first person view of life in a country struggling to come to terms with race, industrialization, urbanization, secularization, inequality, & poverty; as well as enduring themes that spring from human emotion (Love, Hope, Sorrow Etc).
Having been pleased with my first youtube video uploading experience (For My Instrument Creation Completion) I decided that I would share a little bit more musical video with the world.
I ripped the recording onto my computer, chopped it up into a bunch of bite sized portions and uploaded them onto youtube. This was surprisingly time consuming, they need to make some easier faster free programs to convert from .mov to mpeg4, and convert to the proper size. First I used Handbrake to get it off the DVD into one big .avi file. Then into Quicktime Pro to cut it up into 21 small parts and then into iSquint to convert it into youtube optimized format. After that i uploaded them one at a time and continuously cursed my computer to do it faster.
I linked a few of them here for you. So enjoy some of my favorites. Featuring my human friends Andy, Kevin, Jaime & Shafer.
Southbound
As done by Doc & Merle Watson
John the Revelator
A Capella (A la Son House), but also finely performed by Blind Willie Johnson
Old Home Place
A Great Bluegrass Tune by J.D. Crowe & The New South
Samson & Delilah (If I Had My Way)
Traditional, this version is based on Blind Willie Johnsons's. Dave Van Ronk, Rev. Gary Davis & The Grateful Dead also do exceptional renditions.
Friend Of The Devil
I love the Grateful Dead! I am sort of a Jerry Bear after all. This one wasn't on the program it got thrown in on the spur of the moment, just for fun. San Francisco Forever!
High On A Mountain
Another Bluegrass number with pretty harmony singing. Written by Ola Belle Reed, but this version is based on one by the group Hot Rize.
If you like these you can see the rest by going to youtube
Fun. It gives a good idea of what it is like to be in the YellowBear living room on any given night.

Thanks! This one hit the praxis amidst a huge huge flood of junk perpitrated by a few people who are no longer around. I'm not surprised nobody saw/liked it. I was thinking about unsubmiting it and doin a mulligan. It's the only task i've got that isn't up to my desired completion level, but if the Hero likes it, i'll leave it up
Bluegrass Vote!
You made my day at work a little more enjoyable. I just put you on in the background for a while.
If you were to ask on what consumer media people spend the most time, money, or thought, I expect video, recorded music, and text would come out on top. Public art, street theater, and photography are almost certainly well behind line-dancing and jousting in the ranked lineup of recreational activities.
But around here, video, audio, and text are often overlooked. I'm as guilty of it as anyone else. Thanks, Hero, for pointing me to this lovely completion.
As an example of compiling footage, it's a decent completion and certainly deserves more votes than it currently has. But, one can't help but vote based on the content alone. Great stuff, and I'm happy you've chosen to share it with the world.
I like these recordings!
If you have audio-only files recorded in your living room, I would love to have some!
I would like to use a few for nefarious broadcast.
The only possible explaination for this having no votes is that no one looks at any of the responses to this task. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Lovely.
