Fun With Food by Vena Nightmare
February 5th, 2008 2:00 PMI used the butter cake recipe from The Simple Art of Perfect Baking by Flo Braker substituting the milk for water and adding a little baking soda. I also baked the cake in a 9x12" pan instead of two 8" round cake pans. For the frosting I used the Bittersweet Chocolate Frosting recipe from the same book using four less tablespoons of butter than directed.
After the cake finished baking my attempt to get it out of the pan resulted in the breaking. I cut little rectangles off the pieces of the semi-destroyed cake and mashed them with my hands to form more perfect shapes. Next I prepared the frosting and frosted the tops of most of the little cakes. Than I took the white chocolate chips bought by my mother a few hours earlier and pushed them onto the frosted tops. On some of the larger ones I was able to fit more then one on each side. I then played with my cake dominoes.
Even though I played with myself and most of the dominoes were ones (both things making the game incredibly easy), I actually had a ton of fun!
Destroy the cake!

Trying to take it out of the pan caused it to fall apart. I gave up and spatula'ed the thing out.
Make the dominoes

I ended up not using the knife much and just tearing pieces off with my hands. This is what the dominoes look like unfrosted.
Frosting

Frosted the dominoes. The frosting took forever to make because I insisted on reducing all four ounces of unsweetened baking chocolate to shavings. By hand (knife).
Crumbs

There were zillions of crumbs. You can see them here in the pan on the plate and on the counter. My mom wants me to make bread pudding.

A vote for yummy dominoes!
I vote for perseverance. At the point of cake-crumble, I think I would have given up. You, however, have perfectly functional dominoes.
I am now inspired to make bread pudding myself.
