Pushpins by Magpie

January 21st, 2008 4:13 PM / Location: 37.760779,-122.4339

INSTRUCTIONS: Publicly mark the places you've been.

I love pushpins, especially aluminium ones. So much so that my next tattoo will be of one. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with this task, but today being Martin Luther King Jr day I thought that I would do something that related to this particular day and its meaning. To display myself publicly, I took some of my art postcards with one of my prints on it, and cut them down to just the image. I then went through my quotations dictionary to find messages that spoke of peace, freedom, rights and our responsibility to one another as human beings. It was quite a range, from John Locke and Oscar Wilde to Sir Francis Bacon and Dame Rebecca West. Incidentally here's one of the Dame's other quotes that I like.

"I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only
know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that
differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute."

Anyway I wrote the quotations on the back of the cards, and wandered around the Castro pinning the cards up with aluminium push pins where ever I went. I meant to go to more places but it started to piss it down with rain.

1. Telegraph pole. 18th and Castro (Across from the bulletin board)

2. Walgreens. 18th and Castro (Buying ciggys)

3. La Cocina. 18th and Castro (Decent burrito, but not that exciting)

4. Gotham Tattoo. Castro and Market. (Checking out places to get my tattoo)

5. Peets Coffee. (Market) It was 2pm and my first cup, good grief.

6. Waiting for the bus back home. (Would have gone to other places but not feeling too well and it was starting to rain)

7. Fence on the way back home.

Should get the tattoo this week if all goes well.

Made these last year, sold them for $1. They were a big hit.

It's opposite all this sign board that promotes everything from casual sex to yoga. So I thought a quote about sincere friendship would be appropriate.

This was a pin and dash situation, so I didn't look at which quote I was putting up.

Another pin and dash. The ladies were of the suspicious variety.
