Art Unseen by Anna Louise

November 27th, 2008 5:25 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Select a piece of artwork. Study the art for however long you like. Then reproduce the art while wearing a blindfold.

Publicly display your work.

We had a sudden power outage while I was supposed to be working.
So I thought I'd do an SF0 task instead :-)

The supplies

The supplies

I got all my supplies together. Including some dog snacks to keep the dog from stealing my pencils and/or bribe him into giving them back.

The art.

The art.

The art I am trying to recreate - the front cover of Edward Monkton's "A lovely love story".

Blindfold?

Blindfold?

Lack of a blindfold led me to just pull my hoodie all the way over my head.

The process.

The process.

Here's me actually attempting to recreate the work of art.

Tadaaa!

And here it is amongst our lovely dino display.

There's something about the green shadows that I really really like.
Like they've both jumped out of their skin or something. To me it feels like they were jerked to the right really really fast, like warp speed fast, so fast that the color came right off of them. Pretty cool.

Ya, I also like your picture a lot. It looks a bit like a print where the plates got out of the place and it's pretty now. I like your drawing much more than the original. I find the cuteness is improved and it's also less boring than the original. Very nice.

What is this book and why don't I have it and the cup and the toys?

WHY?!?!?!?!

Wow, I'd love to see how you'd do without the 'blindfold'. Great way to overcome that hurdle too.

And good foresight in dog bribes. Does that dog regularly steal pencils? What kind of dog?

Hi Morte!

Sorry for the *very* late reply! The book is by Edward Monkton - do google him - his work is both fantastic and hilarious.

The dog used to steal everything in sight, but he's no longer a pup, so it's okay now! He's a wire haired dachshund!

THIS is probably how I should have approached the task - alas, I did not select my art piece.

You really did some pretty good stuff there - I mean, you pretty much completely connected the dinosaur on the left in your drawing phase and your coloring pretty much matched your drawing area size, so kudos!

Caran d'ache is like my childhood in a metal box. I remember the way it smells, the way it moves dry and wet, the colors....

I know just what you mean :-) My mother always had a box of them, and we were only allowed to use it on special occassions. Then two years ago she bought us each our own box! :-)
