CTRL + Z by The Beekeeper
October 28th, 2008 11:41 PMI started out by turning on some music as I pondered the task.
Not more than two minutes into my random mix , "If you want to destroy my sweater" a favorite Weezer song came blasting over the stereo. A sign! Certainly a sign! A knitted sweater can be easily undone! A sweater is ambitious, but how about a ball of yarn instead? Perfect!
So, first, I learned to knit!
Casting on is the first step.

Then slowly....

I got the hang of it!

After the yarn was all used up...

It was time to "pull this thread as you walk away"

Creating and destroying, I had a blast!

Check out the pictures of my knitting.
I used 109 yards of yarn, knit it into a square patch and then undid it.
Task complete!

Yay for frogging!
*That's what undoing something you've knitted, generally because you just realized that you made a mistake 30 odd rows prior, is called. You pretty much just have to rip-it rip-it.*
i find your motley proclivities quite charming is all. cheers.
Wow! I didn't realize that this was a commonly accepted part of knitting.
I don't think that there's a knitter in existence that hasn't had that 'Oh &*^^ (^%^$! !!%$# ^%#& ^$&^%*!!!!!!! moment because they are rocking along on their project and then they notice that they skipped a row or dropped or added a stitch and that they have to undo X number of days work to fix it. Then you have the dilemma of undoing the work and fixing it or just living with it and keep going. Most of the time you undo it because otherwise the mistake becomes this big red shining beacon in an otherwise good piece.
Not that anyone else would ever notice it, but you do....
that reminds me of this.
not that you could have possibly copied this or anything--it's a really old one!
and good work, by the way.
I hadn't even seen that one! I definitely should have gotten a cat involved though, that would have been a much more hilarious "CTRL-Z".
I think it's the girly part of me that is really excited that you knitted to complete this task. Kudos! Did it hurt to watch something you made unravel? :P
I love this! I actually used a knit square for a clue in a treasure hunt one time: To find the next location, they had to unravel it in a certain direction and stop when the yarn ran out. Excellent undoing!
point for song nostalgia!
