Unconventional Patch by Pierce Beisel

October 1st, 2009 10:52 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Fix or patch something with an anomalous material (example).

Dedicated to Artmouse.

Well, this little fix isn't on some everyday item per-say, it's a fix on me. I had cut myself fairly badly (not too deep, just long) right across the palm of my hand. Myself, being a starving university student, had not bandaids, no gauss, no wraps to cover the wound, but I did have some kleenex. Now the normal procedure when I cut myself its kleenex and tape, and voila instant bandaid. But in this case I had no tape whatsoever. What i did have though was some 16 and1/2 gauge steel wire (of course I have that and no tape, obvious right?) So after I got the bleeding down to a minimum, I grabbed my pliers and I began to work, forming myself a sort of pressure applying "cast" to fit over my hand. When all was said and done, and I had the device on, it worked great! I even slept with the thing on to make sure I didn't bleed all over my bed. In my opinion, an excellent fix :)

This is the look of my "bandaid" from the wounded area

In the middle is a bent coil that applies some pressure to the palm of my hand. Felt pretty comfy actually

The wire wrapped around my hand, so I could still flex it and make a fist(ish) and around my thumb. In the picture, it looks pretty tightly wrapped around my thumb there, but in actuality it was nice and loose

Votes for style. That looks very cool and steampunk cyborg-y.

Aw. After seeing the photos, I had hoped you would say that you had disassembled a mousetrap for that.
