Object Annotation by Jane Doe

October 17th, 2007 10:20 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

I wrote a note to our bathroom shelf, and put it up. I took a picture. Then I realized the photo would look nicer next to the tampon dispenser, so I moved the note a bit to the left. As I was taking the picture, someone came in and I hastily walked into a stall.

Dear shelf

Dear shelf

Dear shelf, I really like leaving my stuff here when I use the rest room. That way I don’t have to put my stuff down on the bathroom floor, which could be sorta dirty. I mean, especially if someone like my kids have used the restroom—they always make a mess. I suppose neatness takes practice. Anyway, like I was saying, it’s nice to have you here to hold my stuff. It’s also a mark of what a trusted environment we are. If this was a public restroom you couldn’t have a shelf like this—people would take stuff. I bet you couldn’t have a shelf like this in Klaus. People are taking stuff there all the time. I don’t know why, but so far we’ve been lucky here. It’s a friendly building. With a very handy shelf. Appreciate your being here.

Nice work! I, too, am a big fan of restroom shelves. It's a real pleasure when I don't have to appropriate the baby changing station to hold a stack of books. Who knows what has been on that thing?

Hee hee, that's the best part of tasking... when someone catches you doing it and you feel totally insane/guilty/embarrassed, even though you're doing something totally innocent. Enjoy the game!
