Restore Land to its Not-Past by avidd opolis

January 4th, 2007 11:46 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Plans are being made for the (re-?) re - development of the man-made land-mass (and former military installation) known as Treasure Island. One aspect of such plans is the creation of wetlands on one corner of the island. This is the restoration of this artificial island to its not-past. Is such an action freed from flaccid nostalgia, and/or unburdened by the consequences of naturalist good intentions? Whatever the meaning of these wetlands (once simply "wet"), one project is too small a sample to decide, so we challenge you:

Choose a piece of land to Restore to its Not-Past.

Rubin Starset decided to go visit some SF0ers in MN0 over the holidays, and returns later tonight. Minneapolis is like 100% snow right now of course, and I figured the transition back might be difficult. To ease Rubin's acclimation, I decided to create a little patch of tundra for him- on his bedroom floor.

Of course I would have to gain entry first, so I changed in to my super-elite ninja gear and stealthily snuck in to his (pink) house through an unsecured sewer line.

I left a note to explain what it was all about.

I'm pretty sure that tundra is Rubin's Bedroom's Not-Past.

Wikkid Awsum!!

Adorable. That poor baby was whining about the cold all week. It's been unseasonably warm here. You could have left a few "your mom" jokes to keep the atmosphere nice and chilly, too.

Good job, though. Way to Ninja.

I hear that in Minneaoplis "unseasonably warm" means you can walk around without a spacesuit.

Oh man. I'd move further north if it meant they gave out space suits.

I didn't wear a coat today. Rubin would have likely been wearing a hat, scarf and whining about the cold.

That's so great!
I thought Rubin did pretty well with the cold. It takes a hardy soul to deal with a MN winter, even a ridiculously easy one that my little sister wouldn't even a wear a coat in...
