City Of Neighborly Love by Leopard of the Blood Moon
December 11th, 2009 12:31 PM
If past occurrences can vouch for such a task, then I shall tell you a tale of talking to a neighbor that lead into a fluffy, yet somewhat burden. I'll try to tell the story as short as I can.
There was a cat in the neighborhood of our apartments. Fluffy, cute, big, and sassy. After loads of time trying to coax her into coming to us, she became attached. She would great us, let us pet her, and even sleep on our balcony. (We live on the 2nd floor).
One day, my wife and I were petting the cat (Angel is her name). That one lady with the loud troublemaker son (about 5?) came our way and instigated conversation with us. Now mind you, I have never even SMILED at the lady... me being a grumpy neighbor as I can be. It was her cat, and Angel used to be an indoor cat of 11 years until the child was born.
Angel would refuse to go inside apparently, and I could tell why. That tyrant child would "pet" the cat, i.e. grabbing her fur and slamming his hand on her. So I was grateful we could give her love and care.
Weeks passed by.
I was trying to take my wife to work and the lady approached me. Mind you, that was the ONLY time we talked. She told me she was being evicted, and went on and on about various things bout job, her son, telling me never to have kids, where she was going and such and such. I was shocked and confused... and my wife had escaped into the car to leave me by myself.
Then she asked, "I don't know what to do with Angel, do you want her? I'll come by and bring food and flea control, please, she just needs somewhere and I can't take her with me."
The lady was asking us to semi-adopt Angel. Well. As a cat loving fellow I stupidly said yes. No biggie. We have an outdoor cat (whom I did manage after a while to have her be indoor/outdoor...sorta).
But what I didn't expect is the phone calls over and over. Asking if we needed food. Telling us she'd give us a $20. Asking how she was. Saying sorry that she left Angel. It was a nightmare for a month. I wouldn't answer the door when I saw it was her, I screened her calls... she never left messages. Finally I once opened the door only to be met with a 40 minute talk which I didn't want. And lectures of not having children yet again.
Time went by, and things died down. In fact, I haven't heard from her in 3 months.
I never thought that she would be so aggressive, and just... I don't even know what to say. I was much surprised, to say the very least. But Angel is a really cute, but very grumpy cat.

Such a grump.
