This photograph was taken while lost in the desert, offroading in a 14-year-old Dodge Grand Caravan that didn't handle heat well. With no air conditioning.
Over the course of an eight-hour unintentional bushwhack, the van stalled out every half hour, and had to wait ten minutes or so for her to start again.
I was entirely unsure of my own survival prospects, but I did take one photo during a break, to document the event in case we made it out. Thing 2 was the only one smiling, but here it plays the role of the Old Man from Dr. Seuss' "Did I ever tell you how lucky you are?"

When I was quite young and quite small for my size
I met an old man in the desert of dries
He sat in a rather quite prickly place
And he sang with a sunny, sweet smile on his face...
