Not The intended Use by Cat A sTrophe

February 3rd, 2008 9:26 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Use something but not for its intended use.

A glass of wine, some candlelight -- what better way to relax after a long, wet day?

So, tonight I decided to make candles inside wine glasses.   I can buy new candles very cheaply, but I find it rewarding to re-use materials.  I had several burned-out tealight containers, and purchased some new wicks at a craft supply store.  I put a large copper-bottomed pot on the stove, melted down an old prayer candle and extra bits of wax I've kept.  Then I poured some wax into the tealights, and poured the rest into goblet-style wineglasses, and a small teacup that I used as a child.  Used chopsticks to hold up the wicks!

I also like to use large seashells I've collected from Pacific coast beaches (mostly from Seattle) as holders for my tealights.  And I use goblets that are large enough as plant holders.  Now I will be warm and cozy all winter!

Clever idea. I love the composition of that first picture in particular.

Have there been any heat-related complications?
