There is a park I regularly pass not too far from where I live. It is Washburn Fair Oaks Park in Minneapolis, MN.

I have visited this park on a few occasions and am every time astounded at the number of benches throughout the park. I happened to make this remark one day as I passed it in the company of InkTea (and a few others) and she said I should count those benches to prove just how too many benches there really are. So I did. It has become The Park of Too Many Benches to me.
I came to the location armed with a camera, a sharpie and a pack of flat-topped thumbtacks. With the assistance of Star5, we made our way to mark every bench there.

I started out by making out the first 25 thumbtacks. I knew there would probably be more than 25 benches, but figured I'd be able to guess how many more I'd need at that point.

Once we reached 25, it was clear there were many more benches left to label. I made ten more and once those were used, did a batch of five and then the final ones individually. Even my initial guess was wrong!
You'll have to view the pictures to see just how many there were. I am content in the knowledge that I have founded my claims of the Park of Too Many Benches.

I think this is another interesting SF/Minn contrast - I bet it would take me all day to find that many benches in the whole city...

hahah. That park is pretty teeny, too, only a city block. I find it ironic that the summer I interned at the theatre company right across the street from that park that I would eat lunch there almost every day, and I chose to sit on the ground.
Cute!
