Museum of Artifacts From the Temporal Desert of Disinterest by Cookie

April 24th, 2015 1:02 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: A newspaper from this morning is useful. A newspaper from 100 years
ago is interesting. A newspaper from ten years ago is garbage.

Your task, fearless Chrononaut, is to explore this phenomenon by curating an exhibition of material drawn from the nameless region that lies between utility and artifact. Include a detailed analysis that contextualizes each piece in relation to the other works and the culture and period in which they are embedded.

One piece of advice: be wary of nostalgia and eschew kitsch, for they will only lead you astray.

Cookie has been very busy in the past few years. However sometimes opportunity presents itself with a chance to complete a SF0 task, so Cookie hired one of his minions to create this game to create a museum of randomness.

There are over a billion items sold on the website Etsy to date in the past 10 years it has been active. Each individual transaction is recorded and the item remains public as long as the shop exists. Due to the amount of items sold through the site, each individual listing may not be at all interesting to anybody else except the seller and purchaser. The items become more interesting when they are connected to something presonal, like a birthday or any other number. They also become interesting when the randomness throws out something important as a coincidence.

Fellow taskers. May I present to you the Museum of temporary disinterest, lovingly and unintentionally curated by the Etsy community:
