I love this space.
First of all, it's secluded. It's way at the back of the 6th floor, behind many rows of shelves.
Second of all, it's not _entirely_ secluded. There's wi-fi up here (though I frequently turn it off in order to get writing done when I come here), and there's a great view of all the goings-on down on the Commons. So I don't feel lonely, just... secluded. Besides, you have a marvelous walk to get here from the elevators or stairs, and it's not very far from where I work. A few of my friends know that this is where I go when I need uninterrupted writing time, but most people don't.
Third, it's one of the most secluded places in the library that also has these big poofy sofas. Some folks think we shouldn't have sofas in the library because most Americans and many others have large personal space buffers and don't tend to share sofas when studying. Most of the sofas in the library get used for sleeping. But the sofas are so comfy!
Finally, I like this space because it's near some of my favorite parts of the library, the Q stacks. It's all science all the time, up here. And technology too!
I've seen this space listed as a secret gem of a study space, in the student newspaper, and it's so true. By the way, it's a great place to get some early morning work done. Try it! I may join you if you're here on the right day, but don't worry, I'll be quiet as a mouse.
Enjoy! (Wondering what this is all about? Find out at sf∅.org!)
********
Okay, so that's what I wrote. I took pictures before writing, in fact, because I wanted to go away and meditate on the space a little more. Then I wrote and printed my note.
This morning, I planted the note. We'll see how long it stays there; I'll check back every few days, when I can remember to.
The View

It has a great view of what's going on in a major intersection, even though it's really quiet up there.
Quiet Zone

There are lots of quiet zones, but this one is secluded, and has comfy couches. According to the student newspaper it's one of the more awesome places to study.
Afternoon light

I really like the lighting in the afternoon, but the morning's the best time to get some work done before you have much in the way of company.
Best seat in the house

I like sitting here best: I bring my laptop, and shut off the wi-fi until I've gotten some writing done. Then I turn it back on and check in with the rest of my work.
Annotated!

There are library staff who are fairly aggressive about removing unofficial and unnecessary signage. But hey, maybe this will stay up for a little while. And besides, somebody has to see it to remove it!
