Audio Scattering by Coreopsis Major Bloden Melen

I thought about this for a while, and hemmed and hawed about what sort of thing I would like to record. I have Garage Band and a USB headset, but that's not much of a setup for the kinds of music I typically make.
I also thought about what kind of material I would like to distribute; music? Poetry? some sort of combination of the two?
And where to put it? I've taken a LOT of things to my local college campus, but I think I need to branch out. Hit some people I haven't hit before.
And then I thought of MySpace Music. Actually, I didn't realize that MySpace Music wasn't regular MySpace until I signed up for regular MySpace and could not find a way to upload songs. I had already used my Coreopsis Major gmail address for _that_ account, but luckily you can append strings to a gmail account with + and most systems will treat that as a new address, so I managed not to have to connect my real-name gmail address to it at all.
And thus was born http://www.myspace.com/coreopsismajormusic
Silly MySpace, it's not spelled "A'Capella."
Aaaanyway.
"I'm Not Strong, Sir!" was recorded way too late at night, while I was still figuring out the controls in Garage Band. I could be far more in tune and on tempo than I am, but for a self-recorded round, that's actually pretty awesome. And yes, that is an evil, evil little round I chose to start with, so I should be happy it sounds that good in a hurry and late at night.
What to choose next? Well, something that a) isn't as exacting as that round and b) actually involves harmonization, hopefully.
And with that was born "amazing beats take 1." I know, I know, it rips off Ani DiFranco's version in massive ways, but damn, it was fun to do.
Next up? Recording multiple vocal parts. "Lepi Juro" was another late-night attempt, hastily recorded. Yes, all three parts are me. Yes, I know I got the jot sound wrong. Yes, I know I am murdering the Croatian language. But it's proof of concept, yo! I may redo this when I'm more awake, and have actually LISTENED TO SOMEONE ELSE'S PRONUNCIATION RECENTLY. (Why did I not do that first? *sigh*)
I think these audio recordings count as 'personal' because I take quality so seriously, and yet I post half-assed results.
Many months elapsed between the recording of "amazing beats" and the recording of "Lepi Juro," and I decided upon coming back to record that third song that this was enough for now, and it was time to disseminate my music.
First the easy part: blogging to friends. The latest post looks like this:
Next up? Cast the URL to the winds.

Before the weekend, I:
1. Handed cards to coworkers who are interested in wacky stuff like this.
2. Gave some cards to a coworker who will be in NYC this weekend
3. Wished I had the energy and spending money to do an order at http://www.moo.com/ for cards
Then I went to Boston for the weekend. Friday night I forgot my camera, but i gave a few cards each to 7 or 8 friends in Davis Square, Somerville, so that they could leave the cards for people to find.
Saturday, some cards came on the T with me:

And across the Longfellow Bridge with me:

And even to Fenway with me:

I handed out cards to more people to distribute, at dinner:
And the last few cards were left on a bench at Park Street:

Can't stop the signal, baby! Want to hand out more yourself? Grab the PDF!
Now, I still have some qualms about this task, because I'm not actually scattering the recordings, as opposed to the URL for the recordings. Also, I know MySpace is hopelessly mundane. But for now, I'm going to hit 'Submit' and see what y'all have to say.

Well, thank you! It was fun. Though I _am_ contemplating buying a lot of very small flash drives and leaving them at rest stops on the NY Thruway this week, with the mp3s, a link to the myspace page, and a link to the SF0 completion on them.

I never get to NYC these days, but hopefully with you and Holmes there I'll get around to it every so often. And where there are tasks we can do by mail, we should!
Easily makes up for the possible slight deficiencies in conforming to the letter of the task. :)
