O Time Thy Pyramids by GYØ Kieran!, Tøm, GYØ Daryl, Adam, GYØ Ben, GYØ Neil, GYØ James, GYØ George, GYØ Jordan, GYØ Chris

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a labyrinth and install it in a public place.

GYØ pulls this out of the crappy beaches of the east.

Tom
Frodo

I'd been intrigued by this task ever since the first time I saw it, then dropped it because I was a mere level 2 player. But seeing as we moved up the ranks, we thought about this task again. We discussed the task repeatedly over Skype until we ended up with the one solution. Enter GYØ, and the Helpful Great Yarmouth Sands. Yes, we were going to dig ourselves a labyrinth, and we did. Recruiting many new GYØ, and in turn SFØ, members in order to complete this, and by Friday we had a list of around 15 people who would be present at some point in the day. 11 of us turned up, 9 of us actually helped. So, if Brett or Storer are reading this, you suck for not arriving! Anyway, Sunday morning, Ben and Tom meet each other at 8:30am, and walk around to find a prospective site for our labyrinth. Carrying spades over their shoulders, they found a good spot.

Ben
Ben

Well, the first thing I noticed was Tom's misspelling of "LABYRINTH" - the "LABIRYTH" of terror plagued Tom until the end of the day. Bwahahaha.

I can't really add much to the points other people have made - we certainly fended off those twats pretty well though! It was a great day, even if I do have a VERY bad back now :(

Daryl
Daryl's Hole

I might not have got down as early as Ben, Tom or Neil but I still got down there earlier then most others. I got really bored and I was getting moaned at a lot. So i found my spot and drove James away from it and began construction. a gigantic hole of which I could pass off as some sort of trap (A cunning plan indeed). The hole seemed very helpful as after I hit stones and couldn't go any deeper, a gang of chavs with wet toilet paper had shown up. As Tom, Adam and the others dealt with them I hid in my hole(don't know what chavs are? don't worry, It's mainly a British thing). After completion it may have been sad to loose my huge hole but it was all for a good cause: TO BURY TOM! He seemed quite annoyed to be buried, so i reminded him the privilege he had been given to WASTE MY HOLE which took around 30-40 mins to dig. But overall I think the blisters were worth it. True that nearly everyone starts their work experience tomorrow (including me) but still it was a huge triumph.

Adam (Greg)
Farmer Adam

It appears by the text left here by Tom that he wants me to write about sexual innuendos and chavs. Im taking it that this refers to today's events and not just the subjects in general. In that case, if you are sitting comfortably, we shall begin. Now then digging a hole in the ground in the shape of a Greek labyrinth shouldnt be hard to do but going 5 minutes without making a sexual innuendo of the matter is a much more difficult task. "Oh Daryl I want to come in your hole". "Oh Neil go and shovel behind Tom". "Adam can you come in between Chris and Kieran". Honestly for a bunch of 15/16 year olds people might have thought we were ... well .. a bunch of 15/16 year olds. It was quite funny though it had to be said and it kept us all laughing. By the time out innuendos had run out we needed something else to amuse us.

Enter chavs. They had spied us digging on the beach on thought we were "freaks" and they are chavs so they are obviously perfectly "normal". They went to the toilet and to get some loo roll and then they added water to create a kind of ammunition. Luckily they totally missed us all the time and made complete prats out of themselves. They failed to see that seven people with spades would probably hurt them if they continued. They went away defeated and then came back and decided to kick all our bags, signs and coats off the wall we were using as a storage space and made themselves feel big by telling us we were fat. Neil and I just kept "laughing" at them and then we really wound them up by giving them a round of applause every time they said something "witty". They finally left and you will be able to see photos of them when Ben uploads them.

Then they turned nasty...

ATTACK

Eight hours, and many shovelfuls of sand and shovelfuls of blisters later, we arrive from the maze o' doom victorious. The minotaur is slain. Huzzah!

UPDATE SUNDAY 14 OCTOBER

Still there!

Well Neil and I were ... out and we decided to go and see the site of the labyrinth. Shock Horror! It was still there and in really good nick in fact. Kids were playing in the sand and our signs were still actually there!

Not dug in vain

It was so nice to see that our hard work hadn't gone to waste. It was also really nice to see kids were running around it and enjoying it as well as actually wanting to know what it is. It was a week afterwards and it had rained quite heavily as well.

What a day! I quite like the "Beware of Minotaur" sign. :) A shame you couldn't get a shot from above, but it looks like a lot of work went into the digging. How deep did it end up being?

It varies, from Over head height of Daryl's hole, to Around waist height at some parts.

There's a trick to laying out labyrinth plans (even the one in the task pic was probably drawn that way originally) and by the looks of how you were following the diagram to dig, you guys didn't do the trick. Which means you went the route of hard core work. Nicely. Done! And quite well documented.

That "not-quite-overhead" shot gives us a pretty good sense. And the epic poses are good too.

Congratulations, you've done GY0 proud. Is it still there?

Yeah, you guys need to work one of the more distant pictures into the proof somewhere!

As for that video: more of the classy, dry British wit we've all come to expect...

Ah, it reminds me of being 15 myself, building crop circles in the field behind my house in the dead of night with a couple of friends, then being shot at by the angry farmer...

Good times! Have a vote! (As if you didn't have enough points already!)

Long live UK0!

Well...

I didn't get a chance to check back today because the bus was late, but it's been raining today, so if it is still there, it'll've taken heavy damage...

Points for minotaur. Points for being teenagers. Points for a well executed plan.

This warms my little Classics major heart. The trap hole? Brilliant.

The funny thing is that Tom wanted, and I quote: "to get ONE TASK that will impress SPAR [now Innk Mea]".

And he's one of the few on the first page that hasn't voted.

Bwahahaha.

Anyway, thanks for your votes, guys. We did work hard in the name of SF- and GYØ.
