INSTRUCTIONS: The first task reads: "Take a picture of yourself. " This is the only time a sous rature gesture will be made, so let us remind you: you may be your character, but your character need not be you.

Your concerns about possession of proof are spot on. The structure of SFZero definitely emphasizes proof over praxis... but this game was supposed to be about collaboration and empowerment.

Let me know how your research into attachment goes. I read somewhere that objects serve as anchors for our knowledge of ourselves: without reference, we will forget who we are... but anchors don't have to be tangible - a roving musician keeps their memories in the form of songs.

aha - found it: "Why We Need Things" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. If you can't find it, I can photocopy you a physical copy. It's a rather good essay - it helped me survive my first year in Chicago.

Joe Frank also wrote a wonderful radio fiction about trying to get rid of all his possessions, but that no one would take them, and then he gave himself away, but his owner was boring. It's archived somewhere online...

An interesting discussion.

And, I'm pleased but not surprised to learn that Dax is a fellow Frankophile. I am surprised, however, to hear him describe an unfamiliar program. Any idea when and where you heard it? Remember any other elements in it? I'll bet we can track it down.

Obsession? Who said anything about an obsession?

is it perhaps inappropriate that the only thing I could think about while reading your profile page was,
"this would make a superb task"?

maybe I sometimes have too much faith in this desiring bureaucracy

curious.

Attachment to the notion of non-attachment? Philosophy is so silly.
