Art gone postal by Rainbow Bright

June 29th, 2007 1:13 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a piece of art…
Apply proper postage.
Mail it to The Envelope Collective

I began this task with YellowBear, cutting out images and funny sayings from random newspapers and magazines. I'm usually up for a good collage, but for some reason I lost interest in following through on what I had started. I put it on the shelf for a while and came back to it a few weeks later with some semblance of a plan. I wanted a themed envelope. But what theme? That's the real question.

I thank the universe (and the mail carrier) for bringing the theme to me...to my mailbox, really. The day that I opened up the mailbox and saw the Victoria's Secrect catalog staring back at me, I knew that I had found my theme.

I set to work on cutting out the gals who would make the "final cut" for the coveted spots on the envelope. Luckily I had some help with the judging...my friends at work were more than happy to take some time to stare.

I did the assembly of the envelope in MANY sittings, so it took quite a while to accomplish. This being said, it was a little disheartening to send off my lady friends to the Envelope Collective. I rest assured that they will be well taken care of and if they are ever in town, I'm sure they'll call!

Round #1

Round #1

First things first...I covered the plain old white envelope with some pretty purple, or shall I say lavender, paper.

Be careful, this could be dangerous.

Cuttin' Out Pretty Pictures.

We spent some quality time at work pondering who was worthy of making it onto the envelope.

This Is How We Roll!

This Is How We Roll!

This picture is definately worth a thousand words. Let's see...playing 'Life' (as a drinking game of course, hence the jack daniels) and modge podging some ribbons and girls. Did you know that you could play 'Life' as a drinking game? Also, if you look closely, you can see YellowBear hanging out in the background....you can also see our dental floss...random.

Adding the finishing touches...at work...shhh, don't tell anyone!

Obviously this is the front.

The Back

The Back

I covered the back of the envelope with black lace...it's unfortunate that it doesn't show up very well in the picture.

I need to ask. What are your rules for playing Life as a drinking game?

I could also see you being very interested in a card game called Mao. I can't tell you the rules, but you can do some research if you'd like.

This is by far the most awesome "making of" for one of submissions that I've seen yet. Of course, you send it to Ophelia, someone who cannot truly appreciate the hot, unachievable images that decorate your envelope. BUT I hope you had fun making it.

Way to go.
