Pavement Is Paper by Rainbow Bright
June 5th, 2007 6:30 PMAbout 4 years ago I had the pleasure of experiencing what it's like to go to rehab. (I know this might seem like a strange thing to share with a group of strangers, but have no fear, it is imperative to understanding the significance of my name in the wet cement.)
Every morning at 7am, for the 30 loooooong mornings that rehab entailed, our counselors would bang on our doors to wake us up for the morning walk. 7am to a group of drug addicts and alcoholics is NEVER a good hour for a walk, so usually we went in our pajamas while grumbling about our upcoming day of 'head shrinking.' On one particular morning while walking passed the Fly Bar on Divisidero and Grove, I noticed a patch of wet cement. Of course, I saw this and a light bulb appeared above my head. What a better way to rebell in rehab than permanently writing your name in cement right in front of a bar?!?! Needless to say, I lagged behind a bit in our walk and wrote "LUC" in the pavement. (Not my full name of course....Luc has been my nickname for years). As I walked back with my group, I felt as if I had done something successful, something to leave my mark on the world. I was quite tickled with myself....until I was found out! Later that day I was called to the office....sounds a bit like school, huh?...and given quite a lecture about how permanately engraving my name in front of the local bar was not the best road to recovery. To them I say...oh, well....I will get points out of it someday!
So today I went back to my old stomping ground to see if my name was still there for all to see. To my delight, there was "LUC" staring back at me from the sidewalk. SWEET! I found a nice employee of the Fly Bar to take my picture with my work and to him I say thank you.
Ohloff Rehabilitation Center!
Hooray for teaching me to be a human being! Thanks Ohloff and Skippy B's
LUC!
You can barely make out the 'c' but I was stoked to see that it was still legible after all this time.
Me and My Work
Glad to see that 4 years later I didn't ruin my road to recovery. Still here to score some points!!!

currently there are no rules vis a vis retroactive completions... as far as i know
Well, I'll do it for you.
[joking]
Don't you know that you can only submit things you've done SPECIFICALLY FOR SF0 as tasks?!? I can't believe you would expect us to give you points for something you did before SF0 even existed! (I'm right on my time scale, right?)
[/joking]
(In general tasks *shouldn't* be retroactive, but usually people don't mind if it's good enough and well enough documented.)
Seriously though, "not the best road to recovery"? I mean, maybe there's a correlation between rebellion and drug use, but I bet there's also a correlation between unthinkingly following rules and relapse. Can't back up those sentiments though.
Ah, taking me back to the old school! Long live the good old days. You showed those bitches what recovery is all about!!! It feels so good to be a human being.
I know there's no rule against it, and there are definitely situations where it can work. This was one. Hence my comment.
I will do my best not to be "retroactive" in the future, but this one was too good to pass up. I'm not trying to mess with the spirit of the game, I enjoy doing new tasks as much as the next guy...
Just wait until I get my flag on the top of Sutro Tower!
Long Live SF0
I'm also generally of the don't-use-old-things school, but as the others have said, you did it well. Apparently your rebelious nature is getting you points!
Not the best of bars.
That building I always found interesting, with the stair ways on the outside, in place after it was erected.
excellent.... excellent......
your move to bring rubin into the fold is being executed...
perfectly....
somebody brilliant put those stairs on the outside of that building...they helped to aid in many escapes.
In reality, I hope that they were put there in case of a fire since there were a gajillion people living in that house at one time!
I'm voting for going back. I never go back anywhere, it's a tough thing to do sometimes.

I want to whine about retroactive submissions but I liked the story.
