SFZero Memorabilia by Rainbow Bright, YellowBear

June 3rd, 2007 1:03 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make SFZero memorabilia: t-shirts, key chains or other objects representing SFZero.

Come up with a clever way to distribute them to other players or offer them as a bonus for completing a task.

So I decided to go about completing this task as a surprise gift for my friend Defythelie. She has been on a massive t-shirt making spree recently and I have scored some awesome shirts because of her craft binges. She had a couple of friends who were leaving for the summer and I decided to help combat the sadness with a little team spirit. I don't want to hear any whining about calling this a collaboration because without her recent t-shirt inspiration and a need for cheering up, I certainly wouldn't have gotten this task acomplished.

I set out in the morning knowing that I wanted to buy myself two plain black shirts, iron-on letters and some printer iron-on transfer paper. After a quick phone consultation with my craft guru (my mother) I was off to Joanne fabrics for the transfer paper and lettering, then to Michaels craft store for the shirts

I then proceeded to download the SF0 logo and the University of Aesthematics crest and went about resizing them and getting a proper layout. I decided to put the oval sf0 logo on the back near the neck, and write our names above the team logo on the front. I had originally thought of putting the logo on the back, but that would have made it hidden when wearing a jacket, which unfortunatly these days is most of the time. I added a little grainy filter to smooth out the imagle loss caused from blowing it up to 300% and began printing.

After a little careful cutting i layed out my final design idea and began ironing.

Its tough to tell from the photos but I was short one "E" in the letter pack so I took an "F" and added part of a "Y" onto it for the B"E"AR. I was surprised how long the letters took, to be honest. The printer paper worked like a dream, but the letters are little bastards.

After a little delicate peeling I am finished.

Here they are in action, needless to say we were very pleased. I think they took a little of the sting out of the sadness that day. Mission accomplished.

The instructions for this task suggest that we should find a way to distribute them to other players, if they wern't so labor intensive I would love to make tons of them but I just don't see it being realistic. I would be happy to share all that I have learned, as well as the image files i created with anyone that want to make their own. I would also proudly make a matching t-shirt for anyone on my team who makes it all the way to the hallowed level 8.

If you see us walking down the street sporting our team shirts please say hello!

Very nice! I was one too! I'm assuming the "transfer paper" is stuff that you can print arbitary logos to and then iron them on to a shirt? Where would one get it in general?

I found it at the Joanne fabrics in Daly City, but I'm sure you could find some at CompUSA or probably Office Depot. It seems like a semi common item. I do recommend seeking out the "Transfer To Dark" variety if you are going to be using a dark shirt, otherwise I think the images are sort of translucent

I'd never seen "Transfer to Dark" before - that's pretty handy. I'm just glad they still make iron-on letters!

AWESOME!!!

Those look great. I hope lots of strangers ask you about the shirts so you can spread the word.

I'm a bear of my word...

I had a lovely series of photos on the making of the Lank shirt to provide this task with an update, but sadly my digital camera was stolen from my car two nights ago, so i guess there won't be any updates until Eddy or Anna make it to level 8. U of A pride!
