When I first decided to do this task I had in mind that I would write a love letter to one of the beautiful objects I encounter regularly, one of those buildings or sculptures or storefront displays that tend to brighten my day a bit when I see them. But then I got to thinking about how the pretty objects always get all the attention and maybe I should write to an object that, though not necessarily inspirational or poetry-inducing, was exceptional in its solid reliability and functionality for me on a daily basis. Beyond that, I wanted an object that tended to not just be under-appreciated because of its plainness but also tended to get a lot of negative energy thrown at it and thus really needed a nice pick-me-up in form of an adoring letter.
It became obvious my letter was going to be written for an object of the CTA.
I ended up writing two letters, one to the Division Bus Westbound which I take to work every morning, and one to the Bus Stop Shelter at Pulaski and Division where I wait for the bus home each day.
I found it especially important that I write these letters this week as the weather is warming and any day now I will start riding my bike to work and not be in contact with either object until next winter.
