Work is So Strange by the band-aid bandit

January 7th, 2008 9:44 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Describe in some detail the strangest thing that happened to you at work in the past week. If you don't work, describe the strangest thing that happened to you during a leisure activity.

Well last week started on Wednesday because of the holidays so it was a short week and this week just started today so the past week would be last week. I'm not very good with time or (thinking really). Anyways you don't care. So here it goes:

The strangest thing that happened to me at work this past week was that my boss gave me a ride to the BART station and we saw this one woman almost get run over. I work in Portrero so there are no street lights (yet) and some rich people live there with fast cars (generalization). The said car that almost ran this woman over was by the way a RED car.

The RED car stopped in time. The woman walked with confidence and pride over to the other side of the road, and the RED car vroomed off crazy fast. My boss yelled "What an asshole. Fucking drive off like it was her fault. Man!"

She drove a few blocks and this guy runs across the street without looking and we almost run him over but he doesn't care.

And then my boss tells me about the time she got hit by a car.

She said she stepped off the sidewalk to see if the muni bus was coming and the sunlight was in her eyes, and apparently the sun was also in the eyes of a car turning into the lane she was standing in. She said she could hear the screeching of the car's tires and the long, drawn out horn. And she said she thought to herself, "Fuck! Man! I'm dead. I just know it. Fuck!"...

And then the car hit her. And my boss said that getting hit by a car is fucking painful. But she didn't get hurt bad enough to go to the hospital, luckily.

.... this was strange because I just got back from a Buddhist retreat where the leader talked a lot about "imagination" and using it in powerful ways. We spent a lot of time imagining things. My favorite exercise was imagining standing in a river and scooping my hand through the water and bringing up my hand out of the water, up and over through the air, watching the river water drip back into the river and then watching my hand going down back into the river too..."

So I think after a whole week of imaging things, I could fucking totally see and feel my boss getting hit by a car, the pain running up and down her body, pulsating through everything, at first it's heavy and then it's intense, the pain is felt and all she can do is wait and hope and pray.

sometimes I wonder how we do it.

I like to press buttons on machines but do not like to read instructions.
