Frank Frink's Colt .45 by Sardonicus Tweed

February 7th, 2009 9:30 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a counterfeit artifact.

This was a fun task. If I did it again, I would have made some minor tweaks to the construction, but I'm still pleased with how it turned out, especially since I've never made a book before.

The journal details the lost voyage of famed explorer, (and my fifth cousin, thrice removed), Nicodemus Tweed, and his search for the fabled Engine of the Lost Kingdom, a device with mythic properties. Upon finding it however, he becomes consumed by it until he eventually fall into homicidal madness.

This is my personal favorite task.

What's This?

What's This?

This morning, the third day on the island, I was walking to the abandoned village center, when a small piece of red something-or-other caught my eye.

Upon further investigation, it turned out to be a book.

The Little Red Book

The Little Red Book

I picked it up, and began reading.

Amazing!

Amazing!

The first page revealed it to be the journal of famed explorer Nicodemus Tweed! Odd, though, because I don't remember hearing about a voyage to this island.

Step 1

Step 1

Gather 5 sheets of plain printer paper.

Step 2

Step 2

Cut them in half.

Step 3

Step 3

Crumple up the paper, then flatten it out. This provides that "old paper" texture.

Step 4

Step 4

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Step 5

Step 5

Soak in coffee overnight. This provides the "old paper" color.

Step 6

Step 6

Let the pages dry. Pour the coffee on some plants.

Step 7

Step 7

Cut two pieces of cardboard to roughly the same size as the paper. These will form the cover.

Step 8

Step 8

Cover the covers in a covering of construction paper. Then bind them together along the spine with ribbon or something similar. I used black duct tape.

Step 9

Step 9

Sew together the pages.

Step 10

Step 10

Krazy glue the pages to the covers, along the ribbon you used to make the spine.

Tah Dah!

Tah Dah!

You've faked an old book!
