Virtual Representation Of A Physical Occurrence by Adam

January 3rd, 2008 12:01 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a virtual representation of a physical occurrence.

For this task I decided to recreate an area of my favourite city of Norwich. This particular area of Norwich is one of my regular haunts. It is located at the top of Gentleman's Walk which is one of the main shopping areas. The main square is actually raised with steps in real life and it is a popular hangout for the local youth, it is called Hay Hill and features some sculptures devoted to Sir Francis Bacon.

The lower area is Gentleman's Walk or Haymarket which includes a very nice Starbucks and a good clothes shop called Topman. This area is popular with people campaigning for one thing or another and for people trying to sell things to the throngs of shoppers who come past. Further down, towards the market is The Works bookshop which sells some good art materials and cheap books.

The whole area is one of my favourites because it is always busy and it acts as a big meeting point between the main areas of Chapelfield, The Walk, Castle Mall, The Forum, The Market and St Stephen's Street. As such many people use it as a meeting point.

To recreate this I begun by taking a screenshot of the area and pasting it into Sketchup and then used the tools there to first create an outline of the areas and then build them up to be fairly realistic copies. It is the first time I have ever used Sketchup and it is quite a simple programme. I think I did quite a good job at recreating the area.

In this era I hope to try out one task from each of the different SF0 groups, Equivilenz is alot of fun and this task proves it but you do feel that the tasks tend to be very time consuming and even costly on occassions, despite this Charlie Fish has showed us Equivilenz is more than its cracked up to be.

It most certainly did, luckily I have a television next to my computer so I can watch Eastenders at the same time.

Luckily in the loosest sense ever.

Hey, that's pretty good!

Although it's more a completion of this task rather than the one you submitted it under.

Well that one was retired anyway this kind of ties in with my next completion so you'll have to wait a few minutes.

Not really an occurrence...

...but neat nonetheless.

I think you could call buildings a sort of occurrence, though they are maybe more of an implementation or a manifestation.
