INSTRUCTIONS: Play in a labyrinth.

lab·y·rinthNoun/ˈlab(ə)ˌrinTH/
1. A complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult to find one's way; a maze.
2. An intricate and confusing arrangement.

So I was reading the praxis for this task and most people seemed to find a labyrinth in their area and proceed to run around, get lost, or meditate inside of it. I did something a little bit different.

You remember Choose Your Own Adventure books? I don't know about you, but I was SO in love with them as a kid, and that love hasn't died over the years. Well, I happen to have one on my computer written by the man himself, Gary Gygax, called Sagard the Barbarian (book one: The Ice Dragon). CYOA books are all about paths you can lose yourself in, so I decided to take my love of CYOA books and use Sagard for my Labyrinth.

But how does this count as a play, I hear you ask. Well, the Sagard series is a lot like the Fighting Fantasy gamebook series that Steve Jackson published, in that it's a single player adventure game. PERFECT.

So, I got some McDonald's and my laptop and went to work slashin and hackin in a barbarian rage!

There's some explanation in the video (and there's an audio recording of the first part of the adventure), but here's how it went down: Sagard's a young barbarian who needs to go on a personal quest to kill as many things as he possibly can, and bring back trophies to impress his tribe's elders so he can become a man. I fought with a mountain lion and emerged victorious with his pelt. I encountered a young woman who seemed like maybe she was gonna kill me so I attacked her and barely won with my life. After some travel and rest I came upon some traders with a really swanky sword that I wanted and a girl to sell to slave, so I attacked them and was knocked unconscious. Upon waking the girl gave me a potion which helped me to defeat the traders, and I totally got that swanky sword, and HOLYCRAP the girl is a Valkyrie who's all like "You will be tested more in the future and you're destined for greatness!" But for some reason she couldn't heal me? I only had 8 hit points left! I encountered a furred snake (why does this snake have fur?!?!), who I would like to think devoured me after biting my face off.

It was a good time, but I am sad that Sagard never got to discover the secrets of the Ice Dragon and come home all "Booyah, look at all this swag! Worship me!"

I do believe that we made the video too long to upload to the site directly (it's 18 minutes of me skimming pages and getting excited over stabbing people in the face), but I have it here if anyone was interest in watching me roll dice for a while:

I am also having trouble uploading the audio file! I also uploaded it to mediafire. I feel so fail.

The audio is the first half, and the video is the second (would have had two videos but we ran into some difficulties)

Sorry about that! Will do better next time!

shot one of my dice necklace and my HP tracking sheet. It totally says HURK BLAH...DEAD at the bottom (Red vs Blue reference)

I took this on Sticky tonight (day after all the other pictures and recordings). Doesn't really show the numbers any better, but it doesn't show quite how atrocious my handwriting is either!
