Campaign of Misinformation by Kegan

August 24th, 2011 11:55 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create false information. Disseminate it in such a way as to be believable as possible.

In my safe haven in the desert, Tucson Arizona, there is a favorite local bookstore/kick-ass media extravaganza; Bookman's. People will sell their old books, movies, CD's etc for store credit so that they can buy used books CD's movies, etc.

Since this establishment is locally owned and non-corporate, the financial stability is highly questionably, especially with the new trend among bookstores to close. Ex: Boarders.

But take the name Boarders and Bookmans. They are fairly similar; both begin with the letter "B" and contain two syllables each.

With the coincidental similarities between their names and the closing trend among bookstores, i have set out on a campaign of misinformation by spreading the rumor that Bookmans is closing its doors. By spreading the rumor, I want the citizens of Tucson to realize what a great asset they have at their fingertips; a book/media emporium that is compleatly locally owned, non-corperate, good for the economy as well as the earth. Only when the people of Tucson are faced with its demise they will realize what a great thing they have and will no longer take if for granted.

To do this I have enlisted a small group of close and trusted friends who are "in" on the rumor to aid in the dispersal of misinformation. Whenever Bookmans is thrown into a casual conversation we will inform the unknowing listener of Bookman's inevitable closing due to financial reasons. Recently, however, the rumor has developed to include eviction, zoning violations, even employee discontent.

Since I have little control of the dispersal of the rumor at this point, it has been hard for me to calculate how wide spread it has become. But I shall continue to spread. By having more than one person spreading the rumor, it will become more and more believable as more people hear it.

note: None of these pictures belong to me. I Got them off of google images.
