Trespassing the Future by Keynell Mix 2

December 31st, 2008 4:40 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to a place you will not be able to go to in 10 years; for instance, a place under development that will never be the same again.

Coyote Valley

The city of San Jose is the crown jewel of Silicon Valley, while Morgan Hill is quaint little gem just a few miles south of it. Between the two lay Coyote Valley, a green expanse of farmland bordered on either side by rolling hills. Coyote Valley is reminiscient of what the Bay Area used to be like, before the tech companies moved in, or so I've been told.

The entire valley is slated for redevelopment by the city of San Jose. Although the Coyote Valley Specific Plan for redevelopment was overturned earlier this year, new plans are in the works. More information on the project can be found at the city's website. Even without city sponsored redevelopment, individual landowners in the area are selling their property, as noted in some of the pictures.

I took a leisurely bike ride up and down Hale/Santa Teresa and took a bunch of pictures along the way. Some interesting spots include Monterey Mushrooms and the abandoned driving range. I also took some pictures of the sushi place I went to that night, 'cause most restaurants in Morgan Hill don't last for long :)

I bid farewell to that future victim of urban spread. Thank you for the tour.

This raises the interesting question about the identity of a place, which geographically will not be denied of you, but in character may become unrecognizable. I would be curious to see the eventual after pictures.
