October 16th, 2009 9:52 AM / Location: 44.986853,-93.24630

INSTRUCTIONS: Bury something. Contact another player that you don't know in real life and give them instructions on where to dig it up. Your instructions can be either straight-forward or cryptic.

When you contact them you should also invite them as a collaborator on the task.

The Things we bury for our friends was part of a larger story that brought together multiple tasks to Skill Share Multi-tasking. Brock Dubbels, Marco Grell, Luke V, and Sam Flannery worked together to create a narrative that involved

Skill Share
The Taking Tree
Plasterboard To Gorleston

and the task as completed here. Brock gathered a box of allof his Children's broken topys from the toy box while Mom had taken the kids to IKEA for skitbullar (prounced shitbollar in swedish) so dad could clean without tears. These broken toys were taken to work where Sam, Luke,. and Marco chose items and put them in a very special cardboard box. Luke made plans from here to bury the boxmain_iphonesf000785703.jpgmain_iphonesf000985704.jpg

My first destination

My first destination

I deduced from the clues that I needed to visit a coffee shop located in dinky town.

She was at the register.

She was at the register.

I asked if there were any clues left for me. She handed the map over to me and asked what it was for. I told her that I was hunting treasure.

This was on the back of the DOOM poster

This was on the back of the DOOM poster

Hmmmmm, what could all of these symbols mean?

Treasure already?

Treasure already?

Attached to the map were more clues, and bus fair. The bus trip lead me to complete other tasks.

As instructed I took the bus line as far as it could, but I still had some distance to travel to find my treasures.

Aha!

Aha!

As I walked I passed this construction, which was familiar... Why, I had passed it with my car on the way to the coffee shop! I must have been subconsciously seeking out the treasure even before I knew where it was.

What do we have here?

What do we have here?

As I got closer I spotted footprints. I had been warned that the treasure was guarded by a great beast, and here is the proof!

wozers

wozers

I mean look at how big they are!

And Lo!

And Lo!

What should appear before my eyes but a giant turtle! It wasn't until much later that I noticed there had been a large turtle on the map.

getting close

getting close

I knew I needed to look for bushes and a fence. And what do I see right behind the great turtle?

VERY close

VERY close

Being the flower theif, it was obvious that I needed to look under a flower by the fence. And see at what I find!

shifty

shifty

Look at that dirt. Just look at it. Have you ever SEEN such suspicious looking dirt. I knew that I must dig here to find my treasure.

prepared

prepared

Of course, I knew that I would have to dig, so I brought along a garden trowel to assist me in my endeavors.

beginning

beginning

So I rolled up my sleeves, (metaphorically) and set to work.

Eurerka!

Eurerka!

After a few minutes of poking around my shovel hit something that was not dirt.

looky here

looky here

It was a box. I uncovered a bit more, and felt I needed to move the flower to prevent it from coming to harm.

Here is the top

Here is the top

I could now dig into the earth with great gusto.

Woah!

Woah!

It turns out I would need that gusto because That box was down the LONG ways. I had to dig deep to get it out. This is how deep the hole was after I was finished! My arm is straight. It goes right up to my elbows.

At last

At last

Finally I got the box out of the earth. It was addressed "To The Theif".

What a large amount of dirt.

What a large amount of dirt.

I had set the earth aside while I had been digging.

Wonders to behold!

Wonders to behold!

Inside was a lovely amount of treasure, for me to do as I pleased. And i chose to do "The Taking Tree" task.

flower dear

flower dear

I didn't think the flower belonged on a heap, so I put the earth back, and the flower as well, that it may light up another's day. If you look you can see the square around it where the dent of the hole was.

for the future

for the future

While digging I had pulled up two roots. I placed them in the shape of an X, to remind people that treasure can be in the most unexpected places.
