Ethereal Cartography by Kingtycoon Methuselah

January 3rd, 2011 8:09 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a map of something that does not exist physically.

I made these maps and also wrote some books to illustrate the regions I mapped out in a more comprehensive way. This is a project that I pursue in character - as my main-life is more purely academic and non-fictitious.

Big map of Klial

Big map of Klial

Here's a big map of my imaginary country, it's not that good, but the more detailed sub-maps are better, and more interesting to look at.

The Climate There

The Climate There

Klial is in the southern hemisphere of a planet, the axis of which is a few degrees more lopsided than that of the earth. So the south pole is always in darkness and as one travels north, there is more and more daylight, to the point where at the north pole there's only ever light. The climate reflects this in bands which I've tried to illustrate, above.

Raindrinker

Raindrinker

Here's a detailed map of the provincial district of Raindrinker, a frontier area, heavily forested and often dark. Read about it here: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/raindrinker---the-murderers-march/6522810

The Windsea

The Windsea

A region of lakes caused by rift-expansions of the nearby highlands and fed by the great rivers of the West. the Windsea is contained by the provincial region called Windheart and it can be read about here: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/windheart-the-city-and-the-sea/5261747?productTrackingContext=search_results/search_shelf/center/2

Solemnwell

Solemnwell

Another provincial district of Klial, Solemnwell is the northern branches of the many mountain ranges that comprise the East/central divide of the continent - known as the Klialispine, or the roof of the world. You can read about it here: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/solemnwell---the-sword-and-the-serpent/6522426?productTrackingContext=search_results/search_shelf/center/1

Hi and welcome!
I really like how much work you put into this (and the character development that went along with it)

If you have any questions, interests, desire to collaborate, please send me a message!

Hugs

Do you use this region for running role playing campaigns too?

Dice are the answer!

Is there any other reason anyone would waste that much time?

Well...welcome to SFZero, where we don't need any particular reason to invest vast amounts of time, except that it might be cool :)

I have a couple of friends who draw up countries just for the simple expedient of planning them out, societally and physically and such. Admittedly the role playing is probably more common but I can see it being a satisfying venture purely by itself.
