Boots Made For Walking by Kristen Maddox
August 19th, 2010 4:00 PMAnywho, these are the shoes I made. I walked 5 miles in them coming from work in the River North area of Chicago, all the way to Navy Pier, then along the riverfront trail, and finally down Lincoln Avenue until the Fullerton Stop in Lincoln Park.
At one point, I had to re-sew a strap, so I was the weird girl fixing fringe-y sandals in the middle of the Lincoln Park park.
To raise the stakes: If I failed this task, I wouldn't own a single pair of functional sandals. It's been the summer of broken footwear...up until NOW!
The victim.

Alas, poor Yorick.
I used the soles from these grubby, completely and utterly nasty sandals. They've seen better days. RIP.
Fact:

If this shoe-building experiment didn't work, I wouldn't have a single pair of functional sandals to my name.
LP

Right after this was taken, I was feeling pretty good about my escapades...
And then a strap broke and I was the weird looking girl sewing her fringe-y sandals in the middle of the Lincoln Park park : /

Yeah I was a little concerned people would say that. I chose to reuse the soles I already had so I wouldn't have to buy new materials. I noticed eventually that reusing became kind of the theme of this task haha, since I used an old tank top for the straps, and altered my walk home from work. Usually I'll bike down a similar path or take a train that goes another way. But I really appreciate the vote! And I just noticed, the street corresponds with your name!
I love it and hope you get lots of votes from lots of players who are less picky than I am because I love recycling and what you've done here. And the name of the street was not lost on me.
style and grace indeed. these look awesome! i'm glad i finally got to see the shoes since you were making these while I was making that dana'stencil.
The shoes are great, and I love the street you walked down to end it. I didn't give full points simply because you recycled the soles. But that's just because I'm a picky voter. Good jorb.
