Naked Mail by Kommando

April 6th, 2011 6:48 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Send some.

The first point of call for this task was to find a fellow player who would accept some mail. Rin seemed a nice choice as she was in another country and this meant i could send Naked AIR mail. so i contacted Rin and asked her where she lived.

Blah blah blah. Wasilla, AK
ok, AK? Arkansas, that's America that should be ok.
lets just check Google maps.
AK... ok, wheres that near? zoom out... nothing yet. zoom out.... Anchorage... wasn't that in Fallout3? zoom out...

Canada... to the east? wait.

Zoom zoom zoom.

ALASKA? WTF?

oh. this is gonna be epic.

Next port of call is the Australia Post website to see if they are stick-in-the-muds and wont accept naked mail. i read all their info about packaging and then read up on air mail. it seems that only items that will have an issue with being in a hazardous environment for an extended time REQUIRE packaging.

So i decided to make a dry run.

I sent a pair of over the knee white socks, naked to Kara Thrace.
the postal worker was quite bemused and stapled a piece of cardboard with the address on it to the socks.

$7.50 to send socks to the next suburb. naked. i picked up some sodas on the way home.

and they arrived.

we were both rather impressed. the socks were a bit dirty, but other than that intact. kara washed them and donned them.

Right i said, aussie post handles socks through the naked mail. Time to go international.
I went back down to the post office with a pair of dainty black over the knee socks, its cold in alaska, with lace ruffles. the postal worker recognised me and asked "it worked? or are you trying again"
"This is part two, that was a dry run to see if it would work. These are going to Alaska"
"Alaska?!" she exclaimed. "thats a trip by half"
"Yep" i quipped as i stapled the same cardboard address holder and plastered the rear of it with stamps.
AIR MAIL.
$19.20 to send frilly OTK socks to Wasilla AK from Brisbane AUS.

nothing

It failed.

A year has passed and Rin has confessed she never got the socks. so this praxis has sat unfinished. but as Go get em tiger said to me, done is better than perfect. so im turning this in.

I sent White OTK socks intercity, naked through the mail.

Two pairs of over the knee socks. White for Kara, Black with gothic ribbons for Rin

The black socks

The black socks

The black socks were bought from an asian street vendor at the saturday market, as such, they suffer from Engrish.

At the post office

At the post office

The attendant couldn't believe she was processing this. the socks had to have a piece of cardboard affixed to hold the relevant address and stamps, I sent it registered mail so I would be assured it would arrive. this was a test run to see if Aus Post handled naked mail. the attendant was rather distressed about the ordeal and constantly reminded me, "they'll get dirty and maybe damaged" "that's not my problem, its the responsibility of the post to ensure parcels are handled with care"
