Potted Plant Distribution by Kommando
May 12th, 2009 2:29 AMone thing that we have a disasterous lack of is oxygen. there are no potted plants, hell there is no greenery at all unless you count the V in the fridge.
Combining these two ideas i decided to install the Left 4 Dead characters in foliage form.
There were a few hurdles to surmount in perfoming this task.
firstly, noone gets the joke, not even my workmates who play the game, "why does louis have neurofen?" *Facepalm*
Next, where to source the plants from and which plants represent which characters. at first i believed they could all be sourced from my back yard but the weed to small plant ratio is kinda high
Bill came from my backyard, hidden under the mulberry tree. with his droopy leaves and slug eaten look he fitted the description of an old man.
Zoey and francis came from the garden outside my friends corporate office. noone batted an eyelid when i surrupticiously pulled them from the tidily manicured garden, the smoking IT workers out front just kept puffing away.
Louis was found eaking out an existance in a carpark cinder block.
installation took about a week and all the plants have survived in the perpetual flourescent daylight of the 24 hour net cafe.
and still noone gets the joke.

The first plant to be installed co/overtly into the cafe was Bill, a slug eaten fern thing from deep in my backyard. a little shovel later and some replanting and bill was rescued from the slimy hunters.

Printed out Bill's concept art and set him up on the counter. Insertion successful. a little osmocote to cheer him up from his ordeal.

With Bill successfully inserted, Zoey and Francis were next
6:12 am, Francis and Zoey make their way into the Valley in my car. Francis had an accident on the way in, i stopped the car on a downhill and he tumbed arse over tit into the footwell, spilling his dirt everywhere. some rapid replanting and he was back together again.
Bill and Zoey installed.
this time i carried two potplants down Brunswick st. noone got the joke so far.

Louis
Louis proved difficult, being the token black guy i had to find a blackleaf plant. quite by accident i stumbled across him on the way home, literarlly, i diverted through a carpark and tripped over a plant growing out of some cinder blocks. regaining my balance i realised the potential and pulled him up and took him home, louis is fully three times as large as the other three so required a bigger pot and some staking. Then he took a trip into the Valley to regroup the team. but wait, on the way i grabbed an empty neurofen box and stuck it down beside him. laughing at my gamer joke i smiled broadly even though the bastard weighed almost 5kg and got in my face while carrying him. at least one person i passed chuckled in recognition.
Bill was moved to join the team.

While I'm not a big L4D fan, I greatly enjoy the fact that you now have more oxygen AND defenders against rampaging zombie hordes.
