The Highest Place by ErinNoel

...(oh hush)
I went to Europe for a few weeks.
My friends and I scampered about the continent
Visiting the beautiful cities of Munich, Innsbruck, Venice, Verona, Lucerne, Heidelburg, Strasbourg, Versailles, and Paris.
It was splendid to say the least.
We climbed spiral staircases until our legs were sore,
And then some.
We made it to the top of quite a few places.
Here, I will show and tell just a few
Enjoy (:
St. Peter's church in Munich
St. Peter's - a church in central Munich, just across from the Marienplatz/the Glockenspiel. We climbed 14 flights of spiral staircase to get to the top. This is the 2nd highest (sssh) point in Munich, but nonetheless it was the highest place we went while we were there.
In the stairwell
Looking down the staircase as we were climbing to the top! (the date and time are sooo off, my apologies)
View from top of St. Peter's
One view from the top of the tower. Probably my favorite view -- the architecture of the buildings in Munich is breathtaking
Glockenspiel!
This is the Glockenspiel! The Glockenspiel is a historic building right on the Marienplatz in Munich. It's a super touristy destination, but for good reason! The gothic architecture is brilliant, it is huge (looking up from the base is mind-numbing), and there is an actual glockenspiel inside! A huge one, and it plays a cute little melody every so often while life-sized wooden men joust. It's way cool.
The Stadtturm, Innsbruck
The Stadtturm is the highest non-Alp point in Innsbruck, Austria. I don't remember how many flights of stairs but my legs were thoroughly sore when we got to the top. This building is located just off the main street and is near by the Golden Roof and the Hofkirche church (which is AMAZING. The most beautiful organ of all time is in that church).
At the top
Please excuse the unattractiveness of this photo. I was saying "we're soooo hiiiiighhhhh," at the top of the building and looking stoned as ever. This is my friend Kelly and me once we made it to the top!
Stadtturm view
This is the view from the top of the Stadtturm! What you see is "downtown" Innsbruck, with some gorgeous Alps in the background. I would live here if I could.
Gondola ride to Mt. Pilatus
Mt. Pilatus is in Lucerne, Switzerland, and is a part of the Alps that is very easy to get to the top of. The gondola ride up is fairly inexpensive, and so fun! (kinda scary at times....scaling the side of a mountain). This is my gondola! #43 (:
Going up!
Looking out of our gondola at the others, here you can still see the city of Lucerne a little bit...
Going further!
....and suddenly we go over a mountain and the city is nowhere in sight, all we can see is forest forest forest
Inside the gondola
Here is Nazara and me inside the gondola wearing our silly free Pilatus hats that were given to us by the gondola company
At the top!!!!
This is the single highest point I have reached in my life, except for the airplance ride of course. You can see the curve of the world from up there, and entire cities look like small clusters of pebbles. It's like nothing I have ever seen before.
The Eiffel Tower
We couldn't go to Paris without going up this baby...unfortunately we couldn't go to the HIGHEST point of the tower, but we went as high as we were able.
At the top (ish)
Nazara and I on the Eiffel Tower. The background isn't much proof, but you'll have to trust us, we are indeed on the Eiffel Tower!
Paris view
And here is the beautiful city of Paris from the Eiffel Tower. It's so gorgeous all lit up at night like this. You can see the Seine River, and I THINK that very lit up building on the back left of the picture is Notre Dame.

"This is the single highest point I have reached in my life" - works for me. Also, the picture is spectacular. Welcome to the game! Looking forward to your future praxes!
