Sneak. by Levitating Potato

July 23rd, 2008 1:53 AM / Location: 35.840896,-78.68171

INSTRUCTIONS: Sneak.
Sneak into someplace you don't belong without being detected.

or

Move without being detected for an extended period of time.

or

Sneak up on somebody without them knowing it.

Whatever you do, put it to the test!
Example, if you choose to sneak up on somebody, make sure it's not your sleeping room-mate, make it an armored car guard, or a hunter in the woods.

See the pictures for the full story. I recommend looking through all of them before browsing the map.

I spent about an hour undetected, in a location I'm fairly certain I wasn't supposed to be. I'm definitely on security camera footage, but I don't think anyone noticed -- at least, the question block is still up there 24 hours later.

Uncertainty

Uncertainty

The world needs a bit more uncertainty.

The target

The target

And what better place for it than the all-seeing eye of the mall security camera?

Up

Up

Gas mains provide for easy access.

First view

First view

The first look back over the rooftop. The gas lines are just visible in the shadows next to the edge.

Dishes

Dishes

Lots of satellite dishes. Apparently every other store needs its own satellite dish.

Windows

Windows

I bet no one ever looks through these windows, even when the mall is crowded.

Skylights

Skylights

Apparently skylights aren't worth cleaning.

Another window

Cooling towers

Cooling towers

HVAC in high humidity, or alien tractor beam?

Soda

Soda

No, I didn't taste it.

Quarry

Quarry

The quarry is just visible over the ledge in this badly lit and blurry photo. What with the high levels of adrenaline, I didn't bother setting up a good picture. When I installed the block, though, I noticed that I needn't have worried -- the camera is pointed down and sideways, and didn't see me.

Steps

Steps

I suppose they didn't want me climbing on their HVAC ducts. They're sturdy, though; I climbed on and over some other ones -- especially when traversing different levels of the roof.

Down

Down

I took a different route down -- I just hopped off the roof onto the awning of the Express store, and from there to the parking deck. The observant will note the camera in the upper right corner of the picture, which saw my entire egress. (This picture was actually taken two nights before; I was fully aware of the camera and decided I would be gone quickly anyway.)

Success

Success

Taken shortly after placement.

Still up...

Still up...

Full view

Full view

The big-picture view of the camera. It points at the walkway in the center of the picture.

Looking up.

Looking up.

48 hours later

48 hours later

They took it down... the lazy way! If you look closely, you can see that the string it hangs from is still attached, and the box is presumably on the roof.

I like. I especially like the Mario block. It adds that certain special something.

What? Tell you before you jump up and punch it? That's not how the game works at all.

Totally great, seriously dangerous/subversive/playful all rolled together

To target a MALL! And even more, a security camera in a mall! To get the evil itself to hold the question block!!!! So beautiful. And serious climbing (yeah, gas mains, so easy, right).
NCZero HQ? That wooden platform is so perfect for a tap dance. Or addressing the crowds.
Oooh, to get the footage from that camera...

An HQ would be good, but the other NC0 might object.
