Dérive by Loøke Jr.

INSTRUCTIONS: Among the various situationist methods is the dérive [literally: 'drifting'], a technique of transient passage through varied ambiances. In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations, their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.

One can dérive alone, but all indications are that the most fruitful numerical arrangement consists of several small groups of two or three people who have reached the same awakening of consciousness, since the cross-checking of these different groups' impressions makes it possible to arrive at objective conclusions.

Undertake a dérive, and report your objective conclusions to your fellow players.

I love summer evenings.

Beginning of a summer's Journey

Beginning of a summer's Journey

As I step out of my back door, the wonderful afternoon summer heat surrounds me. Strangely I begin to feel myself change. Before I know it, I have turned into some bizarre cold blooded reptile. ...I must seek more warmth!

Treasure in the sky

Treasure in the sky

There in the sky is the key to me existence. Darn these trees and tall buildings, I must find a better spot to sun bathe.

Shadows are my enemy!

Shadows are my enemy!

I must take my search further.

To the promised land

To the promised land

I know of a place not far from here, an open, black surfaced haven for me to draw strength from.

I pass the towering monolith

I pass the towering monolith

I approach the awesome structure on my way to find warmth.

If only...

If only...

If only I were of such insect construction that I might be able to ascend the great monolith and be closer to the sinking sun.

NE Icon

NE Icon

I've been debating making this the NE0 team icon, it's the brewery building next to the Pier Botteneau library.

Surreal Heat

Surreal Heat

Even if I'm not in the shine of the sun, radiating from all sides is the source of my energy.

Not much time left...

Not much time left...

I am loosing my chase...

Transformation

Transformation

As the sun was lost to me, I felt a great despair. I knew all too well the cold feelings of the night. I sat and meditated on what I was sure to be my demise. However, to my astonishment, as the sun sank behind a tower, I transformed once more. From a lizard, I became a bear...

My prize!

My prize!

As the sun was just setting, I began to roam. Sniffing the air, I caught the sent of a camp fire. Nose held high, I followed the scent, mouth already watering at the hot dogs and s'mores I knew lay in wait. Hobbling out of some bushes, I found them. Unsuspecting...

A meal well had.

A meal well had.

I stood up on my hind legs, about to roar, when I was greeted with a welcoming wave. The beckoned me to sit with them and after a moment we were telling campfire stories and roasting marshmallows. However, after some time, I began to change again...

The glow

The glow

In the blink of an eye, I became a moth. Driven by my craving to find.... LIGHT! I hurriedly convinced my companions to accompany me to the glow that I saw coming from the southern sky. Quickly we traveled and before long, we were in the heart of the light.

Heaven

Heaven

My tiny moth heart was overjoyed as I fluttered around excitedly, light pouring out of everywhere I turned.

Ether

Ether

I landed on the particularly large bulb of a street light and calmed myself, feeling its glow flow past. As I clung there entranced though, I slid down the pole as I once again became human...

What Dérives us all...

What Dérives us all...

As I changed back into myself I realized that all this time, I was simply Dériveing to a fun night with friends.

Why thank you very much. Might I add that you too had a most excellent Dérive (that song makes it).

I like the instinctive approach.

I am somewhat concerned that you may not have dropped your motives, but hiding them, knowing your attraction all along. Would you elaborate for me? How do you feel this dérive has led you where your usual motives would not have?

On most typical nights like this, when I get done with work I go right over to my friend's house. But that evening my cell phone was broken and I realized as I was about to leave that once I was gone, no one could contact me, pester me about doing work for them tomorrow or badger me into "getting my butt over there faster, we're trying to have a cook out". It gave me a bit of a rebellious feeling. So I figured that eventually I would end up with my friends, but I was going to do it on my own time. From that came my Dérive.
