Fortune Not Cookie by Orang Utan Klaus, David MUCØ
February 16th, 2009 12:37 PMTruths from the book of books
We want to send ahead that we're neither christian nor disrespect chrisitian religions nor want to tread on someones toes with this task!
A fortune cookie gives us more or less concrete advice as to how we have to live or whats coming up in the times ahead.
In other words it provides us with vague truths and prophecies.
So what other work of men (?) is more qualified to give fortunes, that are apt to be really really true, than the book of books, the one and only Holy Book? (Kompetenzkompetenz ;) )
At least if you presume that it really is God's word and not just some crazy guys trying to make themselves famous or whatever...
But it wouldn't fit neither sfØ nor our cause if we just went along with the average bible quotes that you see (way to often as far as I'm concerned) at bus stations or other public places.
So if you take a look at the bible and you don't have to look very closely you'll see that only a small part of it is quotable if you want to make a point with that quote. And these are the ones you see posted by "saveuall" and the likes.
Our quotes consequenly have no or at least very few statement by themselves. They are in a way mostly pretty senseless, such as: So I bought the waistband in accordance with the word of the LORD and put it around my waist. - Jeremia 13,2.
or: In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle. - Zechariah 14,6.
Some give at least some very vague information...
All in all we placed 15 "fortunes".
We tried to make up the lack of sense by placing these slogans in certain places to create at least the hint of a sense or rather give people a thought-provoking impulse both about the quote, the bible itself and the chosen surroundings.
The choosing of the scriptures, the typewriting and the printing took a lot longer than we had thought, so we decided to start the main work after dinner. Without realizing that it was the perfect start for this task, we settled for chinese. All the more we had to laugh when we actually got real fortune cookies.

Of course we hope that no one’s really offended by our work although we’re quite sure somone is.
Enjoy our cookies!
"Special menus" page of the menu of the chinese restaurant.

"And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry." - Matthew 4,2. We placed it before we realized that we're about to get a real fortune cookie here.

"But what can I help you? " - Baruch 4,17. Our favorite. It was quite difficult to document without attracting the attention of the priest. Who already became suspicious when we we're lurking in front of the confessional considering placing it there. german: Ich aber, wie könnte ich euch helfen? - Bar 4,17.
On the floor of a upper class mall in the middle of Munich (Fuenf Hoefe).

"He has broken my teeth with gravel; He has made me cower in the dust." - Lamentations 3,16. This mall is heavily secured by cameras and you're not even allowed to take photographs or make drawings of the place. Luckily we found a blind spot of the cameras or at least we hope we did...
In a changing cubicle of the H&M fashion store.

Collumn of the entrance to the bavarian higher regional court.

On the window front of a beauty salon.

"So the men came to Holofernes, and declared unto him after this manner." - Judith 3,5. Next to the slogan of the shop: We make beauty visible! We think the two guys in the entrence to the right are security personnel of the mall next to the salon. So we didn't get a close up. german: Mit dieser Botschaft kamen die Maenner zu Holofernes." - JDT 3,5.

Brilliant juxtapositions. Welcome.
What he said.
Edit: 11 months later, I finally got back to this one. I am blown away again by how great these juxtapositions are. For those of you too lazy to read it all, just go through the pictures and read the descriptions explaining where they are.
thanks to all of you! thanks for the nice welcome and the comments - i'm glad you like our quotes.
