Metal Detector by Jayce .

INSTRUCTIONS: Detect and pursue metal.

24/03/2010
Detect and Pursue Metal ... but where to begin? I don't own a metal detector ... nor know anyone else who does...

So when you have no idea who do you turn to? Google of course!
main_image1google89005.jpg

And google leads you to another trusty reliable source, Wikipedia!
main_image2metalwiki89006.jpg

Wikipedia lead me to two paths, one which describes positive charged ions and delocalized electrons ...
main_image3metalwiki89007.jpg

and Another which has the word 'heavy' infront of it. The heavier the better right?

I didn't think much of this task for a while after that feeling I was at a dead end ... yet low and behold one day I was flicking through one of my favourite local street press magazines.

When I came across an interview with Machine Head, Which heralds the band as METAL hammer's winner of the prestigious 'Album of the Decade' award. The word then crops up a few more times within the article (as underlined) ... It seemed my quest was back on track again.

Only for me to flick a few more pages through the magazine

And a few pages later! More Metal in the form of a metal column
main_dsc0011589012.jpg

But wait there is more! a few more pages later and a festival type concert advert appears... Imagine that" An entire festival dedicated to Metal!?
main_dsc0011689013.jpg

Overawed by my sudden leaps and bounds into the quest I left the magazine for a moment in search of something else ... the mail (no postie to distract yet though)...

Only to be flicking through the junk mail and discover I no longer had to look for metal ... it was everywhere, even in plain sight! It thought it could hide amongst the other Shiraz, but I saw it for what it really was ... METALa!

All this time I was trying to detect and pursue the metal ... but it was there all the time!

With this in mind I decided to attend the famed Machine Head's concert and report more of my findings afterwards.

I have found metal, and all her faithful followers. Metal on this particular night chose to reincarnate herself into the four awesomely talented blokes from Machine Head

And also a little bit in the very metal crowd, those known as 'Metal-heads'

I also managed to escape the night with a few metal souvenirs to commemorate my attempt and what I believe a partial success in pursuing metal. There was a ticket for my attendance, a broken drumstick and a backstage pass that allowed me such a good viewpoint of the metal proceedings, including brief chances to meet up with the metal gods themselves. Alas I didn't want to get to in their face and there is no photographic proof (of this occurrence at least) of our meeting.

However to believe I have ever completely pursued metal would be kidding myself. This task is entirely an ongoing quest... It may never end ...

It's unconventional, which is good

I quite approve how this moved from "google & wikipedia" (lame) to actually getting out in the world (awesome). That's a critical trajectory: keep it up!

Now, next time, let your Drive guide you: it's cool if you don't want to pressure them to take photos with you. But oh what an opportunity! Be creative then, and document some other way. Remember: your character never misses a connection. Live it, love it, pursue it.

photos with these band members already exist :P Just not from this occasion. I've been privileged with photographic evidence, as well as signatures :)

But I've been told previous encounters don't count/are frowned upon :(
