I've been meaning to put this up for some time now, but kept forgetting.
Also, I apologize for the terrible pictures, but i couldn't use a flash because it would attract too much attention.
Anyway, I go to IIT on Chicago's south side, and one of our buildings is still technically leased to the US army. The army has long since vacated, but since they are still leasing the north wing of m&m, aka Minerals and Metals building, students are not allowed in it.
This has never stopped anyone, though.

m&m is a fascinating place, mostly used for storage now.
The top floor is full of old research stuff like labs full of beakers and animal cages where students used to conduct research on disease and radiation in animals.

The third floor is mainly old student records that people are too lazy to shred.
The second floor is nothing but storage for extra garbage cans and desks.
The first floor is storage for the college of architecture, which I sometimes help organize.

The basement is usually flooded and is home to the blueprints of most of the buildings on campus.

This is the only place at IIT that feels completely detached from the rest of campus. When you are in there, it feels like you've slipped into another dimension. You are surrounded by old furniture, walls that haven't been painted in decades, and literal piles of history. It is like walking through 1982.

That's one thing I've been interested in. Never really had the guts to do too much about it, but it is nice to think about, at least...
