Everyday Life by Meelar

INSTRUCTIONS: Don't go to work. Don't go to school.

This task seemed like it would be pretty easy--just wait for a weekend. But it seems to me that only avoiding my own work would not be doing this task justice. After all, if you're in a store, that's work to somebody, it just happens not to be you. To that end, I set out to avoid all places of employment and education during the day.

Rules

1. Obviously, my own office is right out.
2. All schools are off limits.
3. No stores, restaurants, bars, or other businesses--their primary function includes serving as a place of employment.
4. Streets and sidewalks are OK--yes, there are sidewalk vendors and street cleaners and so on, but this is not their primary function, and streets/sidewalks would still be in place even if none of these other factors were (e.g. rural areas).
5. Same goes for public parks--yeah, there are guards and tour guides and etc., but their primary purpose is non-commercial.
6. Obviously, private residences are OK. However, if an apartment building employs a person at the front desk, I must not enter the lobby.

My Day

Approx. 10:30--wake up. Hangover status: Medium

11-1--Dick around on the Internet

1-4--Watch the Bears game, read New Yorker

1:40--Hold internal debate with self over whether it's acceptable to order pizza. In the end, I decide on yes, mainly because I'm out of most food and going to the grocery is verboten. After all, I'm not going anywhere.

1:50--Receive invitation to watch Bears game at a bar. Regretfully decline.

3:30--My roommate arrives home from a monthlong stretch working for Obama. Greet and exchange war stories.

4-6--More Internet, including research for an upcoming completion

6:10--My second significant challenge--a friend calls me to see if I want to go to dinner. But I find it pretty easy to say no (especially since I ate pizza at 2:30).

6-7:30--Read (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, since you're asking).

7:30-8:15--Call Mom, Grandma

8:15-10--Watch Giants vs. Eagles, read , talk to roommate

10--Reheat pizza

10:30--Go for a jog. Ordinarily I would run in the gym, but not tonight.

11--Settle in for third quarter

11:15--Nap?

1 AM--Whoa, how'd that happen? Time to finish this task and get some sleep.

2 AM--OK, after being sucked into the internet for an hour, I'm actually going to sleep now.
