Street Junk Sculpture by misschraddøn, MonkeyBoy Dan

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a sculpture by arranging things you find on the street.

SERIOUS FACE

For this task myself and the Madden did not so much 'create' a sculpture as modify an existing one to assemble a found object installation piece.

In the Northern Quarter of Manchester (for those of you who cant be bothered to wiki it, the vibe is like the studenty bits of Austin TX, but perforce much more compact), there is a charming piece of public art - a sculpture in the form of outsize dustpan and brush. It's just around the corner from the (in)famous Affleck's palace. There isn't a plaque but I assume its a tribute to the hard-working public servants who have to try to deal with the vast amounts of crap that the drunk and/or lazy discard everywhere in the streets. EVERY-F***ING-WHERE.

There are four rubbish bins (trash cans to you yanks) within 5 SECONDS walk of the sculpture and one on every street corner roundabouts. 5 seconds indolent amble even.

So we 'modified' the sculpture with as much junk as we could find in 5 minutes within 30 seconds walk of the piece itself.

And then tidied up after, of course.

I love this city but the folk can be dicks.

Austin's pretty awesome too but it's too damn hot for me.
