Create Art "Under the Influence" by miss understanding

February 16th, 2009 6:31 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make any form of art under the influence of your choice!
Though being "high on life" is not acceptable, feel free to be creative. Provide photos (or whatever media is appropriate) of your artwork, and photos of you drinking/smoking etc.
If you collaborate, please, no peer pressure.

I wasn't feeling very well this afternoon and almost didn't complete this task but I didn't want to have to wait another month. See, each month I get an infusion of medication because I have multiple sclerosis. This is my third medication. I've tried two others that were injections done at home but got lackluster results. The one I am on now has shown really good results (so long as you don't get an incurable, and usually fatal, brain infection that a very, very small percentage of people have had). While I don't have any crazy (read:drunkish or druggish) effects during the infusion, sitting there with an IV hanging out of my arm certainly has an influence on me. I am reminded clearly each month that nothing in life is promised. I had brought colored pencils and paper with me but I don't draw. After spending some time feeling stuck and uninspired, I finally got out my camera and started snapping pictures while the nurses were out of the room and there were no other patients around. I ended up getting a few shots that I really like which I now submit to you as my "art created under the influence".

I really like the shot of "I don't want forever, just today" with your arm and the IV tube. It's a very telling photo set and inspiring too. I hope you feel better soon :)

Thanx! I would call it an influence, but in a much more subtle way than I think is meant by this task. The very first time I got infused, I went home that night and felt like I had just taken LSD. It's odd calling to report in about how you are feeling and saying "I feel like I am tripping". Thankfully that was over by the morning and has not happened since. My LSD days are long over and I intend to keep them that way:)

I like that you were determined to make art, blanked at drawing, and then picked the medium that felt right.
