Fun With Food by miss understanding

January 17th, 2008 8:57 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Play with your food.

After Tempie Dewar did such a great job with checkers, I ended up calling on my old friends the animal crackers. They have provided me with so many good times, full of laughter and carbohydrates. The last three shots show what usually happens when we get together.

Somewhere in the arctic region

Somewhere in the arctic region

It seems the fish are plentiful this time of year.

Our first sighting!

Our first sighting!

Here we see a seal diving after one of the fish.

A fresh kill.

A fresh kill.

It seems that one of the seals has caught something.

Dinnertime

Dinnertime

I was able to get a clearer shot of the seal as it ate some fish it had caught on a nearby ice shelf.

And just yards away...

And just yards away...

Just as the seals feed on the fish here, the polar bears feed upon seals. I wanted to get a closer shot, but I didn't want to risk disturbing a bear mid-dinner.

Another seal

Another seal

It looks as though a storm front is moving in.

A predator in the shadows

A predator in the shadows

I spotted a snow lion lurking in the shadows waiting for any unsuspecting seals coming out of the water.

No dinner tonight

No dinner tonight

It seems there will be no dinner for the lion tonight. With the storm fast approaching the lion did one more scan of the shore and then retreated inland.

Hi, what's your name?

Hi, what's your name?

My former roommates, on numerous occasions, came home to this scenario. It always began with me introducing myself and then the animal would tell me a bit about themselves.

and then in a twist of events!

and then in a twist of events!

They wouldn't get too far into the conversation before I took them by surprise.

Victorious!

Victorious!

There have been some epic struggles and many animals have put up a good fight, but so far I remain undefeated.
