To Hit A Moving Target by Morte

INSTRUCTIONS: First, check this task's praxis.

1. Locate the most recent completion (careful, they're sorted by score, not date).
2. At the end of the most recent completion, you will find the description of a new task.
3. Complete that task, and submit the proof here.
4. If someone else submits a completion of the task before you, then you may not submit a completion of the same task. If you attempt to do so, your proof will be flagged out of existence by fellow players. You may, of course, include your disqualified proof as an addendum to a valid completion of a new task.

At the end of your proof, you must describe a new task. It should meet these requirements:

1. It can be completed in any geographical region, in 24 hours, for less than the cost of a sandwich.
2. It does not duplicate an existing (active or retired) SFZero task. Un-scored tasks are fair game.

I was going to complete the previous task ETERNAL => EPHEMERAL by destroying a rock from a volcano, but I got beaten to the punch. And honestly, destroying a permanent marker is much funnier.

But this one I think I can do. I work right next to a rail shipping hub, where they take the trailers off of the trains and put them on semis. I am surrounded by truck drivers that I never talk to, so finding one wouldn't be that hard. Now, what should I give them?

I have a token (I would call it a charm but it was made by a monk, so token it is) from a Benedictine monastery in Italy. The token is supposed to be a blessing from Saint Christopher to protect those who travel long distances. It hasn't worked too well for me, probably because I'm pagan. Saints tend to frown on that. But it was given to me by someone I care about and they had a good thought in their heart when they gave it to me. I tried giving it to someone else, but it worked as well for him as it did for me (that is to say, not at all), so I got it back. It doesn't really mean safe travel to me, but it does mean a gift from a good person who was trying to surround me in their good thoughts as I traveled.

I thought that this would be the perfect thing to give to a trucker since they need all the protection they can get. Now, who to give it to. Given the weather and the manacle on my leg I couldn't really go out and find a truck driver, I needed to wait until the perfect one came to me.

Enter Sergio. He is a truck driver for the carpeting company that cleans and replaces our hallway carpets. Since day one he has always been very nice to me, even when we had to give him a load of sodden carpets after our building got flooded. He just smiled and thanked me for trying to dry out the carpets as much as I could beforehand.

When he arrived today to replace our carpets, the first thing he said to me was a cheery hello and asked me how my foot was doing. I decided then and there that a delivery truck qualified.

While he was replacing our carpets I went out front for a smoke and waited for him. When he was done he came out, thanked me for the coffee, and prepared to leave. I asked him if he could do me a favor, and with a brilliant smile he replied "Absolutely!"

I gave him the charm, explained what it was, and asked him to take it. I then asked him that when he felt he was done with it if he could give it to one of the other drivers that he thought needed it. He asked me why I was giving this to him and I told him that he was always nice to me when he came by, which was kind of rare, and that I appreciated it. He replied that he wasn't Catholic, but that he understood the sentiment and would happily deliver the charm for me.

He smiled, let me take a picture of him and his truck, and as he was leaving waved to me and said that he would see me in a few weeks and would let me know who he gave it to.

The good people in this world always deserve an unexpected gift.

For the next task:

Create a collage describing a journey, only using material obtained from one newspaper or magazine.

:) It's all good, ZG is over 200 points ahead of me, so it's unlikely that I'll catch up by Friday. At this point I'm just trying to close the gap a little bit so it's not quite so embarrassing. 'Sides, I want my bet to win too... :P

AMAZING!!!!

WOW! - a Catholic charm made my monks and a delivery man who actually cares. What a nice story!

This was incredibly successful by my standards:

A++

Thanks. It wanted to go to him, so went it did.

And I'm genuinely glad you approve. You created the task, after all.

I like how you figured out a way to find a trucker in an unexpected place close at hand.
